Love Is Bigger Than Government

(click on link for video)

On “Verdict” last night, former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura made the perfect case as to why same-sex marriage is a civil rights issue and that the federal government has no right to tell you “who you can fall in love with.” I was just waiting for Buchanan’s head to explode.

VENTURA: “Well, first of all, I made a statement when I was governor and stand by it today. Love is bigger than government. Who the hell are we as a government to tell people who you can fall in love with? I think it‘s absurd that fact it‘s even being debated. “

2. I would imagine
that most of them are anti-homosexual. At least the racist vote likely is.

4. He does and really isn't as worried about it as Hillary and...
...Terry McAuliffe want you to think he should be.

5. So he is in full support
of equality including same sex marriage? When did he change his mind?

6. I'll agree with you as far as same sex marriage goes
I don't believe in all that "civil union" bullshit myself but I guarantee he's more in favor of and has even sponsored legislation against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. McCain would never do shit for them and would help put gay rights back in the stone age.

7. Well I pretty much
think that using anti gay singing groups puts to rest what he says and what he has done in the past. Sorry, he fucked up. It is one thing to write nice pretty words and quite another to hire people to stir up anti gay sentiment. That is a dangerous move and puts many people at greater risk. Personally I don't think he will be any better than any of them on this issue but would be more than happy to eat those words later if he turns out to be better. Somehow I don't think I am going to have to eat them as I think at best nothing will change.

8. It's a free country
If you or any gay American feel that John McCain would be a better candidate than Barack Obama for gay rights then that's a legitimate reason to vote for him. One I don't agree with, I personally feel like John McCain is more worried about what a woman does with her uterus than equal rights for everyone.
But at least saying you feel McCain is a better choice for gays is more mature and acceptable than not wanting to vote for a black man or voting republican because you're mad it's not Hillary instead.

Where did you see that in my post? Defensive much? Perhaps a little star struck? Good lord, calm down.

10. Then explain in your own words...
Edited on Sat May-24-08 04:41 PM by DaveTheWave
...why it would be better to vote for McCain or to just stay home if that's what you're defending or encouraging. Please clarify what you're really trying to say and we can discuss this without speculation.

Me personally, I thought John Kerry was a prick, still do but it was never an option to vote for Bush, vote third party or to just stay home. Maybe it was all the Dean supporters last time who felt the same way the Hillary supporters do now and feel justified doing so. Did those people in '04 do the right thing for a better America then? Is it the right thing to do now? Is it worth 4 - 8 more years of war, job losses and no health care just to play the same revenge game again?

Just asking for clarification on your point and if you won't vote for Obama, if he's the nominee, an honest reason why you would vote for somebody else or just stay home would be greatly appreciated and respected. Just asking

11. Just go back and read what I said,
There was nothing in there about voting for anyone. I said all I wanted to say, how I see the situation but nothing about support. What is the point of trying to pin me to something? I am not saying anything about what I will do, it is frankly none of your business and I refuse to have this stupid argument. Why don't you clarify how you made so many assumptions? All those assumptions because I pointed out one of the many things I do not like about BO? Could it be that some of us don't think he is all that? Perhaps we don't think much of him at all? Why does that lead you to make assumptions about how I will vote? Jesus.

13. I am perfectly calm
except for the possible weather threat tonight that has me worried. You are not upsetting me but I really do not care for people making assumptions. It is just really a stupid way to accomplish anything and really does not make for interesting conversation.

I detest Barak Obama
I detest Hillary Clinton
I detest John McCain

OK? Now I have to go secure the barns and animals. Please make of that what you will. :eyes:

BTW, if I come back and see that you have decided I am voting for Nader I WILL put you in ignore!!!!111!!

14. Never would do that and I look forward to another conversation with you...
After the primaries are over and I would love to know what the writing or graphics on the horn mean

Good luck with the weather and be careful out there rounding up the animals :hi:

15. I am glad to see that
you took that as a joke. I worried the entire time I was out that you would think I was serious about putting you on ignore.
I can be a real jerk but not that big a jerk. I would have just done it and not told you P).

The graphics are just the keys on a clarinet.

It looks like the threat of bad weather is over, whew! I am half done so I should go finish up.

BTW, I like Nader a lot. He is a great consumer advocate and he has some really good ideas. I don't think he would make a good president but I almost, almost voted for him.
