Say WHAAAAAT???!!!
Today's Greeley Tribune newspaper (www.greeleytrib.com) contains opposing op-eds by a local Democrat and a local Republican. The discussion being about government policy toward the environment, the Republican writer closed with the following:

"The fact is that scientists don't know nearly enough about how the global climate works to know how much human activity affects the process. That being the case, it's unwise -- and even dangerous -- to base government environmental policy on faith-based conclusions."

I may be off-base here, but can't you strip your gears throwing into reverse like that?

5. I think we have a wing nut talking point here. Jonah Goldberg today
Edited on Sun May-25-08 11:33 AM by morningglory
in his column said he is a conservationist (like Teddy Roosevelt?) but environmentalists were religious wackos re: the environment. They worship it or something. Paraphrasing. Couldn't stand to pore over his brilliant words in the early morning, when I have beans to plant. for the Bush economic failure/starvation to come.

6. It seems that the current RW attack on science in general is to call it a religion
Climate change, environmentalism, evolution, have all been parodied as 'faith-based' concepts in RW straw-man attacks. Basically, they play on the multiple meanings of the word "belief" to overlook the empirical and method-based underpinnings of scientific knowledge.

I've never understood why a subset of society that generally wears its faith on its sleeve would think that "religion" is an insult, however...
