Old folks trash-talking Bush!
Yeppers, you know you've had a great Memorial Day when you end up sitting around a table with a bunch of octogenarians who hate Bush. It started when my fundie-Catholic, Rush-loving, Bush-worshiping aunt (also a senior citizen) reminded everyone that Bush suggested we observe a moment of silence at 3 p.m.--everyone else started trash-talking the pretzeldent like nothing I have heard outside of DU! I was SO thrilled, especially because I'm certain quite a few of these angry senior citizens voted for him at least once, but most likely twice. Of course, my aunt killed the conversation quickly. I'm sure it pissed her off. Oh well!

Now...if we can just get these same folks to vote Dem...I think it's possible this year, I really do.
:woohoo:

1. Details! We need details!
And I hope you offered each and every one of them a ride to the polls come Election Day.

3. Oh, it was beautiful, really
Short-lived, but beautiful. When someone mentioned that Bush recommended the moment of silence, someone else said, "Oh, that idiot. He's too stupid to come up with something like that on his own. Somebody else had to suggest it, and he just repeated it."

Then someone else jumped in with "Stupid is right. Look at what he's done with this country. Screwed up everything he's touched--oil prices, food prices, mortgages..." And the others tossed in more examples like the war (and this was the WWII generation talking).

Then, alas, my Bush-worshiping aunt changed the subject--shut 'em down cold. I'm surprised she let them speak that way for the 30 seconds they got away with it, to tell you the truth!

I would be PROUD to drive these folks to the polls. They get around pretty well, but if they need transportation, I am SO there!

4. Or Manhattans!
I love old-folks' drinks! (But just the idea of them--I'd never touch 'em, myself!)

The great part of this conversation was that it WASN'T greased by alcohol--there wasn't a drop in sight. Imagine what they would have said if their tongues WERE loosened by hooch...mmm...nice...

very strong booze, rye and scotch mostly...I never had a Sidecar but it was popular... The martini is still high on the list.

5. Even if they don't vote Dem, maybe they'll stay their butts home.
That would be good enough for me, honestly.

8. I'd be okay with that too
And that might be all we can hope for with some of these folks--I've been witness to their blatant racism. Don't know if they can manage to subjugate that to vote Dem.

12. My mom, 82, despises him as well
She was not at the Memorial Day gathering, as she was under the weather, but we've had many conversations about the present administration. As far as I know, she's always been apolitical, but Bush changed all that. Now she can spew the venom with the best of us. Among her observations: "This isn't America anymore" and she doesn't care what words the MSM carefully chooses, she grew up during the Great Depression, and as far as she's concerned, we're in another one.

I loves me some pissed-off senior citizens. They VOTE. :applause:
