Details About NCLB Emerge from McClellan Tell-All
NCLB, anti-public education propaganda FINALLY gets a tiny mention.

DETAILS ABOUT NCLB EMERGE FROM MCCLELLAN TELL-ALL
This Week in Education Blog
by Alexander Russo

Last week's publication of the former White House press secretary's
tell-all book about his time with the Bush administration was dominated
by allegations that White House officials misled the nation about the
war in Iraq and the Valerie Plame CIA incident. Little noticed was a
passage in the final chapter in which McClellan confesses that he "never
had any idea" what phrase "the soft bigotry of low expectations" meant,
even though he repeated it from the podium hundreds of times

1. Duh, Scotty, it should be obvious what it means
They prefer the "hard bigotry" of no education!

Or the hard bigotry of a very limited and lifeless education via standardization.

5. As a fellow educator, let me tell you what "fun" NCLB has been for me.
I went from a Title 1 low-performing school in a poverty-stricken district to an Independent Study Program. I am so sick of NCLB and all the hoops I've had to jump to be compliant under the Highly Qualified Teacher (for ISP programs) that my eyes spin in circles when I even think about NCLB. It has taken literally years to be NCLB HQT K-12 Full Subject Compliant, and it means absolutely nothing. Nothing. Except it has been a financial boon for the companies that provide all the materials (books, conferences, etc.) for this nonsense.

Seriously, the only people gaining anything from all this NCLB complaincy nonsense are the heads of the companies that make a buck off selling more books and conferences. Ugh. :eyes:

9. And it's moving right along. Quite nicely, at least for the corporations.
Not for the kids... but hell, fuck 'em. That seems to be the mentality of Little Boot's Administration.

7. Check out these first grade test materials from Gwinnett County, Georgia

First grade people! I'm sure the kids so get what they're being taught! :sarcasm:

8. Bwaaahhhh... snort...
 I'd love to see those test results.

First graders can not comprehend the directions, let alone answer the questions. Yes, they may be able to sound out the words... but comprehension? Nope. Not gonna happen.

But, this is what we're expected to make them do. I always tell parents that you can't make a kid walk until their legs are ready. You can try and force them- good luck with that. It ain't gonna happen!

I can not belive the mess education has become. It is so sad.

10. And the more they do this crap, the less the kids know
They force feed stuff so fast and so early there is no chance for learning what it really means.

I hope a change in leadership will get us off this endless treadmill.

11. I've had second graders fall to the floor in tears.
If they were to test and track all along, so actual progress could be measured and then immediate interventions could be implemented, I would be more open to the process. However, what we are seeing with NCLB is just a test with severe consequences. It is an abysmal failure.

15. I do believe that to be true, and not surprising, given this administrations' history.
It's all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and nothing else.

18. Why yes he is...
...and his mother Barbara's "charitable" contribution to Katrina rebuilding stipulated that it had to be used to purchase "educational materials" that were sold by his company.

Their venality truly knows no bounds.

12. As to the big corporations
that support this nonsense so zealously...can you imagine if we DID send every single kid to college and every single one of them DID get a degree? There just are not that many high paying jobs available, even for the present college graduates and they know it. They want to keep ordinary folks and the poor down.
