The drug war is anti-child
At least in the inner cities of America, the biggest cause of death is the black market caused by the War On Drugs.
While I know many people in the inner city that would love to see God Almighty remove all intoxicants from the planet earth, I meet very few that see arresting drug users / dealers as a solution.

Where I live only kids sell drugs. They belong to gangs where young adults run the show from jail and the watchful eye of ghetto lookout spots.

When the cops "bust" a ring, three or four others fight to take over the turf. The locals get caught in the crossfire. Eventually the turf is secured by a rival gang, and security returns. Then the cops start their "bust" all over again.

It seems everyone in the ghetto knows who controls the drug trade. Everyone knows that the cops are underpaid people, trying to protect and serve, all the while trying to provide for their families.

The cops have no interest in putting their families in danger by busting an OG. They will let the FEDS come in and do that, when the FEDS want to. The cops will then tip off a couple OG to promote "good dialog" with those gangs that will remain after the feds leave.

The kids really get the shaft in the drug war. There is no way for their families to make money and the only job opportunity for them is to sling rocks or nuggies.
The kids are the ones that get busted. Not the 12 or 13 year olds, but the 17 year olds. They get to go to jail.
So kids get a couple good years (from 12 to about 18) to make a ton of cash. Then they get a life sentence.

But the cops and the OG's go on as normal. Both try to protect their families. Both try to keep the streets safe. Only the kids suffer.

2. Exactly. Such phony "war$" aren't carried out in the name of altruism, but for profit and control

4. I think one of the covert reasons for the "war on drugs" is to disenfranchise the underclass,
especially blacks.

What are OG's?

7. You know what's up. I'd add that the drug conviction means it's hard to get a job, college financial
aid, into the military under normal circumstances, subsidized housing, even welfare. Once you get busted, they try their damndest not to let you back into even the lowest places in the legal economy, let alone anything that will allow you to build yourself some kind of a life.

You get a rec from me, because you know what's up.

11. Two things at work here
The big one is the drug war obviously. Make it legal and sell it at liquor stores. Check ID. Any violent offenders toss in jail. Simple.

Another one is child labor laws. It sounds strange but in most states a child under 15 can't get a job at all. Oh there are two places they can work. Entertainment and they can work for Congressmen and Senators. Interesting no?

There is still reason to put restrictions on what types of jobs kids can have but work is education. That is what apprentiships were all about. But those are illegal today unless the master is the parent. I think these laws need to be revisited. I don't want kids at an assembly line for 40 hours a week but some after school work with a trade would do a world of good.
