Help Me With Picture of Obama
I have a family that is dead set against Obama and say he won't salute the flag. Can someone tell me where I can find a picture of Obama saluting the flag? This is ridiculous!

1. There is a video of Obama leading the Pledge of Allegiance in the Senate -
hand over heart - will that help?

2. Really, don't worry about it. We're going to wipe the floor with
the Republican opponent.

Oh, yeah, and you found your way to the internet; maybe you can find Google?!

21. Ahem...never say 'don't worry about it'
We have a lot of hard work ahead of us getting Obama elected...and every single individual whose mind can be changed counts. It would also be helpful not being rude/patronizing to new people here, okay?

3. Why would he salute the flag? He's not in the military
until he becomes Commander in Chief?

IIRC, you only salute if you are or were in the military.

All others, place their hands over their hearts.

9. When he is "Commander in Chief"
he still won't be "in the military". CiC is a function, not a title...

11. I know. My point is that he's a civilian
right at the moment, but when is he CiC, he will more often than not, salute the flag.

19. I don't think it would ever be appropriate for him to
"salute" the flag. He is not, and will not, be in the military. Becoming President does not confer military status upon anyone. After he is President he will still be "a civilian at the moment"; when he assumes the duties of the CiC he will still be "a civilian at the moment".

We have got to get away from this idea that the President is some kind of military officer - he/she isn't, not by any stretch of the imagination. We have got to stop thinking this way...

4. "salute" the flag?
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 12:06 PM by Lex
Or place his hand over his heart?

Or disrespect it by drawing on it or signing it (like Bush)?

Barack's grandfather taught him to say the Pledge of Allegiance, and he regularly leads his fellow Senators as they recite it together. His grandfather taught him that you put your hand over your heart when you say the pledge, but that during the National Anthem - you sing!

Obama's grandfather:

A picture of Obama with hand over heart during pledge:

And another

The photo below is from Tom Harken's steak fry in Iowa. Obama has his hands clasped in front of him and is singing while the other candidates are standing mute with hands over their hearts. Watch the video to understand what is happening in the photo -- Obama is singing the National Anthem while all of the others are just standing there.

Video... "Obama SINGS National Anthem... Others Do Not" -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4FD-j_Dqq8&feature=related

The clip of Obama saying the Pledge of Allegiance in the Senate was from C-SPAN and rateyes posted it in the thread above -- here is the link... http://youtube.com/watch?v=JD6bKaVW-ls
