HEADLINE: Clinton to end historic candidacy, support Obama, plea for party unity

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton is ending her historic bid to become the first female president and will back rival Barack Obama on Saturday, capping a 17-month quest that began with the words "I'm in it to win it" with a more humble plea for party unity.

Hours after Barack Obama sealed the nomination, Democrats coalesced around his candidacy, sending a strong signal to Clinton that it was time to bow out. The former first lady told House Democrats during a private conference call Wednesday that she will express support for Obama's candidacy and congratulate him for gathering the necessary delegates to be the party's nominee.

"Senator Clinton will be hosting an event in Washington, D.C., to thank her supporters and express her support for Senator Obama and party unity. This event will be held on Saturday to accommodate more of Senator Clinton's supporters who want to attend," her communications director Howard Wolfson said.

Also in the speech, Clinton will urge once-warring Democrats to focus on the general election and defeating Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

3. The phrase "kicking and screaming" comes to mind.
Nonetheless it's good she'll finally start to help heal the party.

4. You know, Hillary's concession speeches are starting to remind
me of the Judd's farewell tour - you know, the one that lasted, what, three years?

5. This has been the most invigorating Democratic primary season in my life.
Though a lot of people want to characterize us Hillary supporters as spiteful and loyal only to Hillary, they're just wrong.

I am looking forward to unifying with the many good Democrats and supporting Obama in November. As for the bad Obama supporters who've done nothing but sow division...I never really thought that they were Democrats anyway.

It's been a long road, huh? I'm glad that you and I are on this road together.

"As for the bad Obama supporters who've done nothing but sow division"

Maddy, it's going to take you a little more time to figure out that history views the losing side of a Primary as the ones who were "sowing division".

The people supporting Obama are remaining with the same support and effort to win.
It's the voters who have picked a candidate that has lost, that now have to reconsider who they want to support in the Presidential Election.

Stop blaming the winners for YOUR candidate's loss.

8. What a ridiculous comment.
This wasn't a war, despite the way it was portrayed. Your post strongly suggests that you are the one who doesn't get it. Maddy was making a valid point and you are so full of yourself that you can't even admit that some supporters are less tolerant than others - perhaps because you seem to be one of them.

Condescending twit.

12. Hillary's a lawyer, a very good one. Words mean a lot. Especially
when words like this are planned out and vetted ahead of time.

"Express support" being changed to "supporting" is a BIG difference. I don't expect her to say that today but if she isn't saying something like that in about a week, well... then screw her. Because if she isn't saying that within about a week it means she is not working for a Dem win in Nov.
