Bobby Kennedy assassinated 40 years ago tonight
Bobby Kennedy was gunned down at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles 40 years ago today.

Had he lived and won the WH America would have extricated itself from Vietnam, racial tensions would have been eased, and average Americans would have been treated with much more respect.

He was a champion of the poor and downtrodden.

Barack Obama reminds me of RFK.

2. Easily the best President we never had
I can't even fathom how different this country would have been if 1968, 1980, and 2000 elections had produced different results.

6. "They" is right
The actual assassin's name is Thane Eugene Cesar, who was dressed as a security guard and standing behind RFK.

The autopsy report by Tom Noguchi states categorically that RFK was killed by three bullets fired at point blank range from behind.

God, if he'd been elected Vietnam would have been over, Nixon would have faded into history, and racial tensions and poverty in America given the attention it needed.

You're so right. He's the best president we never had. Good statement.

4. I didn't know till morning.
My mother woke me up with the news. She looked white and completely shaken. She didn't like him. She never liked him, not since he worked for HUAC, but this had her rattled to her bones.

8. The defining moment of the transition from childhood to non-childhood.
Hearing, on the radio, that he was shot. That was the moment I moved away from being a child.

10. I posted a video tribute earlier today
To Abraham, Martin, JFK, and Bobby. You can see it here

I'd like to think all of these guys were happy to see history made this week. Bobby thought it would happen in 30 years. Better late than never, I guess.......

11. Actually, it was 40 years ago LAST night.
It was 12:15 AM on June 5th when Senator Kennedy was shot. I remember so clearly how we heard the news first thing in the morning on the fifth and, through his tears, my Dad commented that it was such a horrible way to start his birthday.

Rest in peace Bobby and Daddy. I miss both of you so.
