The guy will go down as the best DNC chair in history. And I'm still holding out hope for a HowardIs45 campaign in 2016.

fuckin' HEEYAAAAAH!!!!

3. Dean is one of those "shoulders" that Obama "stands on".
Dean paved the way. He lost the nomination, but his example got him the DNC Chair...and that got us a new way of doing politics.

Obama is very cognizant of the people who have strived and lost, that our while perception of the way things are done might change. Dean is one of those people.

..and those are the highest accolades that can be bestowed, in my opinion.

13. It's not just Obama
It's all of the party members. My district had tools to elect the first state House Rep in over 20 years in place because of what he did. Granted, we may have done a little, but he did a lot of leg work to insure that we could have a plan in place to move forward.

Though he may have been a great president, he is a awesome chair. Much legislation that touches our lives locally is due to local politicians. A shift in power was greatly influenced by what he's doing.

I love that Obama seems to recognize that.

I'll admit to having mixed feelings on hiring him, since I wanted him to run in 08.

23. DFA started pushing it, and they were joined by PDA and other grassroots groups
I think it must have been the first time in the history of the party that regular footsoldiers even knew or cared who was chair. People focused on lobbying their state DNC members. That was the first time that I knew who they were.

The fifty state strategy has been wildly popular among state party people.

30. I met him walking down the street in 2006:

I ran into Howard Dean in front of Scholz's in Austin in 2006. He's really short. Clearly, not as short as me, but - surprisingly short.

I LOVE him. He's so... populist, and... CRAZY.

AAAAAOOOOOOOWWWW!!!!!!!

31. I was a comment somewhere in my reading in the last day ...
... where someone said, something like, "There is a direct line from Howard Dean to Ned Lamont to Barack Obama." (google is my friend... Carter Eskew, Gore's 2000 chief strategist)

The 50-State Strategy and other tactics successfully used by Obama's campaign definitely started with Dean.
