racist scumbag-"Newt Blames The Victims of Katrina"
"How can you have the mess we have in New Orleans, and not have had deep investigations of the federal government, the state government, the city government, and the failure of citizenship in the Ninth Ward, where 22,000 people were so uneducated and so unprepared, they literally couldn't get out of the way of a hurricane." 2. Aren't you being racist by assuming Newt was only referring to black people.
White people died in Katrina too. He's an uncaring prick before he's a racist.

4. The OP calls him a racist scumbag and then provides a quote where he makes no mention of race.
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 12:37 AM by Blashyrkh
It just pisses me off when people focus on race. We are all humans beings first and foremost.

You're not white or black or yellow. You're human.
You're not gay or straight or transgender. You're human.
You're not a midget or dwarf or "height challenged". You're human.

Catch my drift?

5. Your drift is meaningless.
Im a Louisianan, who happens to be white, who knows how motherfucking huge a role race played in katrina. Also money, oil, piece of shit old white men etc etc.

Seems hilarious that a 19 post newb would come to bat for Gingrich, i am utterly shocked!

11. Nice of you to use the "with us or against us" mentality.
I merely commented on the fact that race is completely irrelevant. Focusing on race, regardless, just perpetuates the meme that we are different. First and foremost, HUMANS died in NOLA. That's all I'm trying to say.

"He's an uncaring prick before he's a racist."

That means I still think he's a rascist.

"Seems hilarious that a 19 post newb would come to bat for Gingrich, i am utterly shocked!"

Seems hilarious that a 1000+ poster wouldn't comprehend what a 19 post newb was trying to say. And how shocked I am to see you focus on my post count, like that is the universal unit on which all board members are judged.

I apologise for making this simple "Berate Newt" thread more complicated than you'd like.

17. Well i stand solid in my notion that race was almost ALL of the reason
and when shitty old knowen racists feel the need to remark it doesnt take much to draw the conclusion.

And yeah, sorry if it shocks you but seems taht DU has more then its fair share of people with very minimal posts who have nothing but bullshit comments to make. Kinda like defending asshole republicans.

And your attempt at sarcasm was boring :boring: :boring: :boring: :boring:

7. Sorry to say this, but the original post was right
Sorry to say this, but even though I wouldn't have used the word "scumbag," the original post was right. Race wasn't specifically mentioned, but out of the entire area affected by Hurricane Katrina, Newt singled out New Orleans' Ninth Ward as being uneducated and unprepared. He didn't call anyone in Mobile, Slidell or Biloxi, or for that matter, anyone in other parts of New Orleans uneducated or unprepared. Guess who lived in the Ninth Ward. Plus, considering his audience, it's unlikely he was referring to uneducated white people. He may not have said it explicitly, but the audience surely knew what he meant.

And even if it was just an unfortunate case of foot-in-mouth disease, it was an incredibly stupid thing for Newt to have said.

8. Blashyrkh?

"Aren't you being racist by assuming Newt was only referring to black people."

Race
Only four large cities (Gary, Ind.; Detroit, Mich.; Birmingham, Ala.; and Jackson, Miss.) have a larger portion of their population that is Black than New Orleans.

The Lower Ninth Ward is 99% Black.

12. *rolls eyes*
That's exactly what I am. Because, obviously, when I said:

"He's an uncaring prick before he's a racist."

I obviously meant "I love Newt".

As I said above, I merely commented on the fact that race is completely irrelevant. Focusing on race, regardless, just perpetuates the meme that we are different. First and foremost, HUMANS died in NOLA. That's all I'm trying to say.

13. Race is completely relevant.
Because if they had been white, Newt wouldn't have called them stupid.

This isn't rocket science, you know.

20. That's your interpretation. And an inherently misguided one at that.
Referring to people as "black" or "white" or "gay" or "straight" only reinforces idea that there are differences, which only perpetuates racism. We should look at the similarities. We're all humans before we're black or gay.

But hey, continue to ignore what I have to say in order tocall me a Newt sympathiser.

22. Are you really an Aussie? I'm defending you in this thread
not because of that, but because I think you're right. A lot of DUers are hidebound idealogues even as they denigrate others they perceive as being the same. Hypocrisy isn't limited to the right-wingers as you probably have noticed. Welcome to DU anyway. :D

24. Yep, Aussie, all the way to the bone.
And thanks. It's an issue I'd love to discuss at large here but since I can't make topics, I saw an opportunity and ran with it.

"Hypocrisy isn't limited to the right-wingers as you probably have noticed."

Well and truly noticed. But this isn't something I'll discuss publically lest the masses become disgruntled.

population. why ignore the racism ? of course people are humans but racism is a huge problem and one of the reasons for human suffering in the world.

6. Newt Gingrich is only
giving the picture as Conservatives see it.
One part of most any speech given by Conservatives
includes "Personal Responsibilty".
when they speak they mean it. In their ideaolgy
a person is responsible for themselves. If a
person hits upon hard times it the responsiblity
of the person and his church to get him through
it. Newt is being true to Conservatism in this
speech.

Never forget it is us Liberals believe there is
a role for Government. It is us Liberals who
started all these programs that Conservatives love
to hate.

Someone might suggest to Newt that people who do
not believe in Government Programs and see Government
as the problem---really should they try to run the
government. It is difficult to run something you
really do not believe in.

This is his way of saying the state is at fault
for not providing education, jobs etc. Sorry
NewT La is consdervative and so PRO Business
they have the same problem the Fed. Gov. has.

I do not believe Newt was being racist. There
are a whole lots of white people in NOLA. The
Cameras focused on the African Americans and
the pictures were horrible.

Racism is a serious problem in this country.
We can trivialize it by accusing too many
people of being racists.

WE need to challenge Conservatism with every
fibre of our being.

Tornado warnings = minutes

Hurricane warnings = days

Not defending or criticizing anything...just stating obvious facts when incorrect comparisons are being made.

15. Granted, 3 hours notice according to the mayor
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 07:35 PM by NI4NI
is definitely not much time, but also according to the mayor the school was considered the safest place to be because they had no place safer to go.
Just maybe, the people Newt criticized had no place to go either, regardless of any amount of prior notice. Did he ever think of that?

10. Republicans campaign on the platform that government isn't the answer, it's the problem...
and then, once they're elected, they do their best to prove it.

I think Al Franken said that.
