The way things are going it almost is worth it to top off the tank each day before the price rises again. Fortunately for me a tank of gas will last me a month.

An Israeli deputy prime minister on Friday warned that Iran would face attack if it pursues what he said was its nuclear weapons programme.
"If Iran continues its nuclear weapons programme, we will attack it," said Shaul Mofaz, who is also transportation minister.

"Other options are disappearing. The sanctions are not effective. There will be no alternative but to attack Iran in order to stop the Iranian nuclear programme," Mofaz told the Yediot Aharonot daily.

He stressed such an operation could only be conducted with US support.

and then the bloody price starts going up. We need to take these so called "strategists" and forecasters and fine them when they make these kind of statements. This jerk just made a killing by placing bets that it would go up and then making this statement and , of course, it goes up.

Going by the EIA breakdown, figure 28% for processing, distribution and profit; 53% for the cost of crude; add $0.38 Federal and state taxes, and $150 oil gets you gas at $4.96 a gallon.

There's something very unsettling about this system where investors seem to flock to one thing or another like piranha, driving up prices very quickly. I don't remember this kind of volatility in the America I grew up in.

Turns out, that's exactly what it is. Supply is flat, demand keeps growing.

U.S. gasoline and diesel inventories last week gained more than expected, the Energy Department said yesterday, while India and Malaysia joined other Asian nations in raising fuel prices to cool consumption.

``There's a realization that current high oil prices are affecting global demand,'' said Robert Laughlin, a senior broker at MF Global Ltd. in London. ``The U.S. data showed that prices were deterring many people from driving even over the Memorial Day weekend.''

These day by day fluctuations are basically noise. The fundamentals work over the course of several years. Expect some lag time.

His reasoning for why oil should be at $150 is flimsy and is trying to perpetuate a self-fulfilling prophecy. This is Wall Street run amok yet again.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Oil prices shot up nearly $11 a barrel and settled Friday at a record $138.54 - driven by geopolitical jitters, a dollar decline stemming from a weak jobs report and a forecast that oil would hit $150 by July 4. Friday's spike in the July contract for light crude on the New York Mercantile Exchange marks the largest singe-day increase in oil prices on record. The contract hit an intraday record of $139.12, breaking the previous trading record of $135.09.

Hedge funds have retreated from bets that oil will continue its sharp rise of the past year, giving hope to hard-hit industry and consumers that prices may have peaked, at least for now. US government and trading data show hedge-fund managers and speculators have reduced bets on higher oil prices by 80% since last year when prices began to rise sharply.

The figures emerged as part of an official probe by Washington into how much of the oil price surge is due to market speculation.

It will also investigate possible manipulation of the market that has seen prices double in the past year.
