Another chase of illegals in south Texas. Lucky no one was killed.
It was a really hot day, and someone saw people lifting the cover in the bed of a pickup to get fresh air, so they called the sheriff. They believe there were about 22 undocumented immigrants travelling in the truck. This is in hot and dry south Texas, about 100 miles from the border.

This is just so stupid. Why can't we handle this in a way that isn't dangerous to so many people?

Shots fired: Deputy feels threatened after driver rams his patrol unit

Chavis drove and searched and finally spotted the Toyota Tundra it a distance. He reported to dispatch he had spotted the pickup; it was traveling in excess of 100-mph as he continued to chase it. The pickup turned onto FM 623 heading toward Mineral. “The pickup came to a stop in the middle of the road and Chavis could see people poking their heads out from underneath the black rubber mat,” said Live Oak County Sheriff Larry Busby.

Chavis parked behind the pickup and walked toward the driver. Suddenly, the driver “started racing back and rammed into Chavis’ patrol unit,” continued Busby.

Chavis, feeling threatened, fired several shots from his pistol. Next, the driver sped forward leaving a trail of glass and debris. Chavis jumped back in his unit and continued to pursue the driver as he went around a curve and then another. The driver went through a fence and crashed into the thick low hanging branches of a tree. The undocumented immigrants jumped out and scattered. One woman and a man remained. “The collision tore up the vehicle pretty bad. One individual had a gash in his head that appeared to be from a bullet. “ As procedure when there is a shooting, the Texas Rangers were called to assist. The injured man was transported via HALO to Spohn in Corpus Christi.

“The man’s wound was studied and it was found to have come from the tree. Apparently no one was hit by the shots,” said Busby. The search continued for the undocumented immigrants and for possible injured. On man was found by Gonzales on FM 623. The man was injured by the collision and dehydrated. It was found the undocumented immigrants had not had anything to eat or drink for two days.

They called in a helocopter but never found anyone else. The sheriff said it is likely there was another car ahead or behind them that picked them up somewhere.

1. Maybe the Mexican government should take care of their people
instead of catering to the Rich Ruling Class in that country

4. That would be the Rich Ruling Class that *installed* the present government
the people elected Lopez Obrador. The Rich Ruling Class installed Calderon. What do you expect him to do?

5. I agree with your statement. They should.
And living down here, I don't like paying for the medical care. I just wish there was something people could do without shooting at them or them ramming police vehicles, etc. People shouldn't have to be deathly dehydrated to get work. Our police units shouldn't be destroyed, etc. Nothing is working down here. And the Mexican govt isn't helping.

2. The undocumented could start by not trying to kill border agents.

who had just the week before been bounced out of the back of a pickup as it ran from immigration. He had walked four days thru the desert just to get to the truck in the first place. The stories these people have to tell.... I tell you... it boggles my mind that anyone can have anything other than at least begrudging respect for them.

things have changed at the border as of late. There is much money now in smuggling guns, drugs, and immigrants. The drug cartels have declared war on the Mexican police. We have had shoot outs between coyotes on this side of the border as far north as here in Houston. I have no doubt that the deputies felt threatened-it is happening with increased regulatory these days.

Edited to add it really is affecting all aspects of life here. In addition to putting a strain on our health care and education system...it's the little things. Trucks are frequently stolen here and you can bet the majority end up south of the border to be used to haul drugs, guns, and especially immigrants through the desert.

7. Yeah, I've felt it, too. I'm further south, and our hospitals
bear part of the brunt of the healthcare and education issues. I am also along a major highway route for transporting illegals. It wasn't that far from here that those illegals died in the back of a semi trailer four years ago.

8. These border problems....
have been creeping upward, further north with each passing year. This last year-there was a shoot out at a major intersection under a freeway overpass. Folks were obeying the traffic signals and driving into the crossfire. Scared the shit out of everyone and we were lucky no one was killed.
