NBC news w/ McCain on now. The election is over.
Just about the only thing we need to do is keep that
guy talking .... he is brutally bad and he really seems
out of touch.

Can the DNC pay for air time for McCain?

1. The election is FAR from over. Do not underestimate
McCain and those behind him. We can only breathe easy after November.

2. It just occurred to me
that the Repubes have thrown this guy out as a straw man, just destined to be crushed, since they knew Fuckface had screwed it up so badly for any viable candidate they might have had.

4. But all their people running for President were weak on many fronts.
Mitt, Huckabee, Rudy, Brownbeck, and so on.

I have a family member who is a republican and a Presidential
Scholar and by mid Dec. 2007 even he was saying that the republicans
had a really weak field.

5. The smart repugs (oxymoran?!) knew it was hopeless this year. It
seems they are on to something!

9. I don't know who they might have run
But I suspect McCain was thrown a bone and encouraged to run.

11. In any rational world there should not be a "viable" Republican
candidate for at least two generations. Nice to see you here. Too hot to be on the streets?

3. I like the way you think. Take it from this long, longtime AZonan, he hasn't got the challenge chops
for a tough campaign; he's never actually had to run very hard.

He was anointed by the Arizona machine very early on, blessed by the local old fart media (remember Dan Quayle--that bunch) and business network right from his first Congressional run. Since then he's skated to victory without ever breaking a sweat.

Seriously--there must be some way to get more face time for this "charismatic" speaker. I'm all for it!

10. Sad to say, but it makes little difference what McCain says, what matters
Edited on Mon Jun-09-08 06:11 PM by Uncle Joe
is corporate media spin, analysis or coverage of what he says after the fact.

If you watch David Letterman's "Great Moments in Presidential Speeches Skit" and you see Bush's total ineptitude, well that didn't just happen after he became pRresident. The corporate camouflaged, diminished, made excuses for, obfuscated or just ignored his many gaffes and mistakes as a candidate, while they simultaneously slandered, libeled and trashed Al Gore. They even turned 180s overnight overruling their own reporting and their focus groups as to who won the debates in 2000.

The result is the past disastrous seven+ seems like fifty years, of Cheney/Bush.

12. Yeah I'm not worried about McBoosh per se
But if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it... does it make a sound?

14. Exactly, sort like them reporting there were no people in the streets
protesting the war with Iraq, ignoring the hundreds of thousands out there.

The first time I ever heard of Bush's limo getting egged at his inauguration and the Bushes not being able to walk to his swearing in because of hostile crowds was after watching Fahrenheit 911.

13. According to Greg Palast
the Repukes have already caged enough votes to assure another "win."

The only thing that can save us is a huge turnout.

17. There are Republicans
Edited on Mon Jun-09-08 08:17 PM by beltanefauve
and then there are "Republicans". The latter are in it not because of that party's platform, or because they Newt Gingrich's "Contract with America" really resonated with them, or because they fundamentally agreed with Barry Goldwater. These people probably couldn't describe or explain any of these things if asked. No, these people are consumers rather than citizens, and went "R" because they were into being Republicans. They thought it was cool, and they perceived that the Repubs were winners, much like rooting for and identifying with a sports team. Perhaps they were attracted by the fact that being a Republican means that you can be self-absorbed, that it's okay to be "politically incorrect" (read: racist, sexist and/or homophobic), that the one with the most toys wins. Well, now Republican is a damaged brand. These people too are paying at the pump and losing their homes. And they'd still like to be identified with the "winning" team. McSame isn't offering them a winning strategy.

That said, I think we have a good chance of winning over a lot of dissaffected "Republicans" this year. But as for the true hard-core party-over-country types, we need to be ever vigilant. They're not going to go down gracefully, and will pull out every dirty trick in the book, and probably a few new ones this year. Don't get complacent, and watch your back!
