Edited on Tue Jun-10-08 04:24 PM by Cant trust em
Someone's got to bring a voice of reason to this. Honestly, I've been thinking about this recently. Getting my Masters in Public Administration so I can make our government work properly.

26. was it a heads-up for people to watch for checks in the mail to prevent fraud?
I thought the same thing though - I got the note about 2 days ahead. Can't I just have an extra $0.50 on my check instead?

15. A whole $82.01! woohoo! Not even a tank of gas.
But, at least we don't have any more tax liability, until, of course, next year when, even after letting the IRS take out taxes as if I were single with no dependents, we'll probably "end up owing" yet again because of the SSDI supplemental my husband and the kid get. And we still can't claim the $9K - $10K a year we pay out of pocket for needed medical. (That's not counting the $450 or so a month I pay to have medical insurance)

We've got to get a tax credit for real medical expenses - if you can get a tax credit for child care and/or additional retirement accounts, you should be able to take $100 off of every $1K or $2K you pay out of pocket on "deductible" medical expenses - and insurance companies already keep track of what can be legitimate medical procedures and what is cosmetic. The good insurance companies will even track procedures and meds that are legitimate but they won't cover for whatever reason, and what is just "wanna have fun" procedures ("grilles" - cosmetic dentistry, cat's eye mirrored contact lenses, 4xD boob implants...)

But yeah, $82.01 left over from the $1500 we "were promised" as taxpayers who filed on time. And that's better than a lot of people I know, some of whom are in worse financial shape than we are.

This whole "stimulus package" was nothing but a cheap audit and assessment of the average american taxpayer. Just wait, they'll come up with some reason to "flat tax" our asses or drop the AMT level to force average working families who still make around $35K after the standard deductible is taken out of their wages to have "a minimum tax" taken out of their returns to "keep them honest". And still, the Very Rich will have some method of not having to pay as much out of their spending money as those average families.

I'm just grumpy about the whole thing. But at least we got a little over $80 out of it, more than what we had owed.
Haele

taxes by $3700, so we would be getting a check for that. The next day, got another letter saying that our rebate was being delayed because they were trying to figure out why we overpaid so much. Still haven't seen either one. Going to buy a pellet stove with the $3700 - can't fathom what our oil heat bill would be next winter - guessing somewhere in the neighborhood of $5400, based on current price and last year usage.

edited for missing letter that changed meaning!

The IRS tells you when they're sending them out. It's based on your social security number.
