Maybe that's what a journalist is supposed to do: make us partisans angry by asking the question we would just as soon avoid. Believe me, he made the right wingers angry just as often.

I never had anything against him personally. He was a good man who loved his family very much. I was touched by his relationship with his father, "Big Russ".

Sunday mornings in America will not be the same. RIP Tim.

2. RIP, but I'm not down with the media lionizing him....
and they'll almost certainly use it as a wagon-circling point against criticism of theirs (and Timmeh's) journalistic malfeasance.

But RIP nevertheless.

This is most certainly not the time to insult the man. He was a true journalist. Just shut up.

19. No I will not
He was complicit in the deaths of thousands of Americans and over a million Iraqis. My sympathy is for his family.

and all of the non-voters, and all of the Kerry voters who were not sufficiently militant for your taste.

Geez. There are such some mean, nasty and self-righteous people on this board.

17. he pissed off the left, he pissed off the right.
He pissed off the left, he pissed off the right, he pissed off the moderates...

He must have been doing something right.

At the risk of getting metaphorically tarred and feathered, I've thought for quite some time that Russert and Bob Schieffert were the last two Sunday morning heads that never exceeded the boundaries of journalism.

...and this is coming from a guy who hates to praise the dead simply because they are dead-- as though death were reserved for only a chosen few.

That blog always liked to show a speeding running loop of him with the word balloon "Clinton's cock"

Be that as it may, dropping dead at 58 years of age - Sheesh.

My dog won't even stay in the room with me when I watch the Sunday morning shows, the air gets so blue. Nonetheless, after hearing Russert talk about his father I couldn't hate him, which is a high accolade from me for anyone employed in the corporate media during this administration.

28. He was a professional, alright
no amateur could deliver the oral copulation he delivered to Cheney on every appearance.

For Christ's sake! This man was a joke of a journalist! The White House specifically went on his show to spew their propaganda because they knew they'd get no pushback from the "bulldog interviewer".

Sheesh

a shame that the person(s) involved have successfully remained publicly unknown. I'd like to buy them/him/her an meal sometime.

and.....I wonder how long it's going to be until any criticism of the "journalist" Russert is to be allowed by the death police. should a date be established? I could hold out. will it be for the same span that was apparently necessary to grieve for that similarly giant of a figure, Gerald ("you don't get the job until you sign the pardon letter FIRST") Ford?

40. He was a true professional in that ...
he took money for his services.

But he wasn't a journalist. He was a pundit, a talking head. Just because you get your pichur on TV doesn't make you a journalist.

The fact that he, apparently, loved his family has nothing to do with whether he was good or not in his role as a media shill.

Sheez, the celebrity worship in this culture is mind-boggling.
