NO ONE from this bankrupt Administration is in IOWA, NO ONE...
as far as I can tell. We know where Bush is, but no Cheney, no FEMA Officials, no Repub congress people. NO ONE. Folks, this is a huge message. The Republican Party has given up on convincing the American people it is worth anything, especially their votes! We know they don't care but now they don't seem to even care that we know they don't care. This worries me.

The OP qualifies her blanket condemnation of all federal civil service employees, national guard, etc., with an "as far as I can tell" statement. Well, simply google FEMA and Iowa; go to the FEMA website, etc. before trashing hardworking men and women - most of whom are Dems, by the way.

(and I know people from the Kansas City FEMA Office who have been working in Iowa for weeks now, in addition to FEMA employees permanently staffed in Iowa)

FEMA administrator in Iowa
Friday, June 13, 2008, 3:00 AM
By O.Kay Henderson
The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency is in Iowa today to see the state's flood and tornado damage in person. FEMA administrator David Paulison, who landed in Des Moines last night, heads to eastern Iowa with Governor Culver this morning.

"We're going to provide everything we can possibly to help you get back on your feet. The state has been devastated and it's not the first time. You've had two 100-year-floods in a very short period of time. We'd like to keep them 100 years apart, but that didn't happen," Paulison told reporters during a Thursday evening news conference at the Des Moines airport. "You have shown resiliency back in 1993 and I know you're going to do it again."

Paulison served as Fire Chief of Miami before taking a job with FEMA in 2001. He became the agency's administrator in 2006. "When I took over FEMA after (Hurricane) Katrina, we only had about 1500 full-time employees," Paulison said. "Today we are over 3000....so we have doubled the size of the agency in just two years and that's remarkable in the federal government."

Paulison cites a number of measures implemented in the past few years to ensure those who receive federal disaster aid actually lived through the disaster. "We do have an identity verification system in place we did not have after the aftermath of Katrina and you saw all the fraud there, so just bring something that shows us, yes you are who you say you are and yes, you lived where you say you lived and we'll take it from there," Paulison said.

Paulison is scheduled to visit Waterloo at nine this morning and in Cedar Rapids shortly after 11, then he'll jet to Indiana to view flood damage there.

FEMA Region VII
A major levee in Cedar Rapids and one in Des Moines have been over-topped and breached, with the Des Moines levee breach flooding the Birdland Park Area of the city. Mississippi River navigation is being affected by the closure of locks and dams along the Upper Mississippi, and that the State of Missouri has activated its Emergency Operations Center for 24-hour-per-day operations. River flooding continues on the Missouri River from near Plattsmouth to Nebraska City, Brownville and Rulo.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Beginning Sunday, most deliveries of water to Iowa will be handled by the USACE, which has activated its Massachusetts-based National Water Team. The mission began Friday, June 13, with the delivery of 220,000 bottles of water; an additional 270,000 are scheduled for delivery by late evening Saturday, June 14. The Corps will begin the delivery of 1.5 million bottles over the next week.

FEMA Logistics
Resources dispatched by FEMA Logistic to assist flood victims in Iowa include 558,000 bottles of water, 470,000 sandbags, 30 leased trailer trucks, 1-50 pack generator, 63,699 packages of Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) and five Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers. Deliveries of water to Kansas also are pending.

U.S. Coast Guard
The USCG has deployed two Disaster Assistance Response Teams (DART) to Cedar Rapids and two teams to St. Louis, Mo. DART teams are mobile teams that consist of three flat bottom boats and personnel for operations in flooded areas. The USCG has been conducting overview flights to assist in the assessment of flooding in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids; meanwhile the Regions are reporting that the State of Indiana is requesting two hoist-capable helicopters. Coast Guard liaison officers are stationed in the RRCCs at FEMA Region V and Region VII in Chicago and Kansas City. The Coast Guard also has a liaison officer at the Iowa EOC and one at the Cedar Rapids County EOC.

American Red Cross
The ARC is active in all the affected states, with an estimated 2,100 people committed to the relief effort. Currently, ARC, in coordination with the Southern Baptists relief organization, is moving additional kitchens and supplies to the State of Iowa in order to begin providing 100,000 hot meals per day beginning Tuesday, June 17.

U.S. Department of Transportation
The Department of Transportation is reporting scores of road closures across the Midwest states and the loss of rail bridges in Dunlap, Waterloo and Cedar Rapids.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror

12 to 18 hour days, 7 days a week, sleeping in tents - but hey, don't concern yourself with any FACTS. It's so much fun to use national tragedies as vehicles for demonstrating your cynicism and sarcasm.

Oh, the cleverness of you and the other clueless smart aleck commentators on this thread!

Try to fathom this. Bush has sabotaged every federal agency every which way he can for the past 8 years. We know more about what he's done to gut FEMA because the Katrina disaster shone a very bright light on his pathetic political appointments, budget and personnel cuts, etc. Nevertheless, there are still hundreds of pre-Bush, FEMA civil servants who have done yeoman service under the draconian conditions of Bush/Chertoff/Albaugh/Brown. These good people ARE in Iowa, they WERE in Greensburg. So shut your face at trashing them, cause you don't know jack!

16. Would it really make the people of Iowa feel better if Bush or Cheney were there?
I live in SW Wisconsin where we had a lot of flooding and I don't think peoples' first thought was to wish that Bush was here. FEMA officials however, are here, I believe, after they were asked to come here and asses the damage in order to get the areas declared a federal disaster area in order to get federal funds. Nobody here needed FEMA or Bush right now to get things done--we're doing it ourselves quite nicely at the moment. My governor, Doyle (who is a Democrat) is satisfied with the job that FEMA has done so far. From what I hear from most people here, they are satisfied with the job that FEMA did with the flooding last summer.

I have not heard anybody wish that Bush or Cheney had been here in person. Not one. I am betting the people in Iowa feel the same way.

The administration has reliable intel that all this extra rain is a terrorist plot, and the military is preparing to invade Iceland, even as we speak. The Icelandic government is, according to White House sources, in possession of vast amounts of WMD (Water of Mass Destruction) which they could launch against US targets without warning. Said Bush of this development, "We can wait to see if the smoking gun turns out to be a rain cloud over Des Moines. We have to act now to put an end to this threat."

This has a lot to do with whether or not they're there. Eventhough Louisiana went red in 04, NOLA was solidly red. NOLA also made the difference in getting Mary Landrieu reelected in 02. Hence, no aid during Katrina.

41. Me too. The people here have created all sorts of rumors re water supply
Initially we were set to run out by Tue ... then my sister calls this morning and has heard from her daughters that the water was to be shut off for the surrounding area at noon today, and knowing how I follow "conspiracies," {LOL} she called me to get my perspective. I had to go with what I had just heard on KCRG - that the water ban had been partially lifted, with CR facilities at 50% water production, so odd numbered address could shower/do dishes/laundry today, even numbered tomorrow, and so on. So that was a case of the truth being the opposite of the feared scenario. However, yes, these are indeed strange days we're all experiencing ... in fact, we were coming home from seeing the movie, The Happening. Go figure.

63. George doesn't really care what your color is.
If you could write him a check for 6 figures then you're his kinda guy but don't ever get to thinking he cares about you. His world revolves around him and him alone.
