U.S. abuse of detainees was routine at Afghanistan bases
By Tom Lasseter | McClatchy Newspapers

..................

Spc. Jeremy Callaway, who admitted to striking about 12 prisoners at Bagram, told military investigators in sworn testimony that he was uncomfortable following orders to ''mentally and physically break the detainees.'' He didn't go into detail.

''I guess you can call it torture,'' said Callaway, who served in the 377th from August 2002 to January 2003.

Asked why someone would abuse a prisoner, Callaway told military investigators: ''Retribution for September 11, 2001.''

Almost none of the prisoners at Bagram, however, had anything to do with the terrorist attacks.

1. "Doesn't Matter. They're all the same."
This, believe it or not, is what some droolers say when you call them on the whole "Iraqis weren't involved in 9/11" thing.

2. Yeah it's hard to square that with the theory that we are there to help them
Isn't it?

Maybe I'm missing something.

3. Think back to when Abu Ghraib first broke: the "few bad apples" meme
Sure would seem to be an awful lot of bad apples in the bunch.

5. It really is just a few bad apples.
The bad apples of society tend to collect in places like all volunteer militaries prosecuting illegal, unpopular, brutal occupation wars.

9. They were abusing people in New York City after the round ups
following 9/11 And taping it, too. We went from zero to torture in nothing flat.

10. disgusting, isn't it.
i have a theory about the whole factory school system, and the way it grows little authoritarian followers by the bus loads. one more thing i am waving my magic wand at as soon as i get it.
