What The Heck Is Fuckmookery?
http://toulousestreet.wordpress.com/2008/06/14/boy-scouts-save-iowa/
Is anyone surprised this sort of fuckmookery has crawled out from beneath the rocks where it lives?

Cedar Rapids is under water and 15 people have died as a result of the flooding. Of course this story has been in the news but I can’t help but wondering where all the network trailers are. I can’t help wondering where FEMA is and where are all the protesters demonstrating against perceived government inaction on this one?

Also, where are all the dead bodies floating around while hoodlums roam the streets shooting at people and looting stores?

What is it about this storm that is at least as bad, if not worse, than Katrina that has left us without stories of devastation caused by the government’s failure to swoop in and help people? Why don’t we have music stars on TV holding a telethon to raise money while they proclaim that George Bush hates white people?

Why is it that teen aged boys, members of the Boy Scouts, were able to respond immediately to render first aid to the injured and dig out those trapped in the rubble when adults in New Orleans seemed incapable of helping themselves?

Perhaps this goes back to the thoughts I had about dependence on government…

2. At risk of pointing out the obvious, residents in Iowa could see the floodwaters coming at them from

upstream and had time to pack up and evacuate.

The horror of Katrina happened after the storm from the gulf had passed, from levee failure, when the people assumed they were safe again.

Big difference, to anyone who cares to see it.

The "dependence on government" from the Iowa floods will show up when the multi-millionaire "farmers" start filing claims for "support" from the government, and needless to say, the richest of the "farmers" (many of whom live in New York and have never in their lives stepped in a cowflop) will receive the bulk of the "emergency funds" while the press politely looks the other way.

But this "dependence on government" doesn't have a black skin, so some people can't see it, I suppose.

Edit: George Bush doesn't hate black people or white people, particularly -- he just hates poor people.

5. What The Heck Is Fuckmookery - fuckmook is
a term coined by the late NOLA blogger Ashley Morris in the aftermath of Katrina. It's a completely worthless MoFo

RIP Ashley

10. Ashley Morris
Thank you for remembering Ashley Morris, one of the great warriors in the last battle of New Orleans. It is not too late to help out the wife and three small children he left behind:

6. The only significant parallel between Katrina and this mess is a lot of water.
  • The flooding in Iowa has come on gradually and predicatbly.
  • New Orleans, being on the tip of a massive river delta, was isolated from the rest of the country for days. Access to Iowa remains easy.
  • The federal government already is in place doing some measure of help. Relief organizations such as the Red Cross are on the scene as well.
  • I could be mistaken, but I have not heard of entire urban neighborhoods flooded to the top of the rooflines. Much of the flooding in urban areas in Iowa can be navigated simply by rolling up one's pants or wearing shorts.
  • If you took all the trapped citizens in Iowa, they would not fill up the New Orleans Superdome.
  • The networks are all over this.
  • Proclaiming that George Bush hates white people ... Please. I'll let this one go unanswered.
  • Boy Scouts can help in Iowa because rising rivers flood predictably, and the military has not shut off the only access roads to Iowa.
  • If you lived in New Orleans without access to a car and, thus, were unable to escape prior to Katrina hitting land, what choices would you have in terms of "helping yourself"?

You're a talented young man, but you are a bit off in your analysis. Please, take another look.

8. Fuckmookery is what a fuckmook does
a fuckmook, according to Toulouse's friend, the late, great Ashley Morris, was anyone who disrespected his beloved New Orleans. Example of usage here:

http://ashleymorris.typepad.com/ashley_morris_the_blog/2008/01/a-language-less.html

In any case, if he means “The US Government”, then hey, by all means do so. I’m sure that those of us living here would be happy to quit paying taxes, and then we could do the thing we’ve been threatening to do for years now: shut down the port, and turn off the pipeline. They’ll freeze to death in the dark. And they haven’t seen taxes until they see what will happen when they try to ship their engineered crops out of our port. Oh, and there will be a quintuple damages tax for any good that requires fertilizer – we have to take care of the dead zone you fuckmooks have created, see? We’re so tired of cleaning up after your mistakes. And if you don’t think we can do it, perhaps you should read about what happened to the British when they tried to fuck with New Orleans.

Sad to say, there were and are a hell of a lot of fuckmooks out there.

P.S. Toulouse was once a DUer, named markus. That is how I became enmeshed in the NOLA blogosphere to begin with. Keep on reading him; he's among the best writers in and about new Orleans today. Most of his stuff would work perfectly well as newspaper columns.

9. Fuckmook
I think we will have to write a wikipedia entry. It's hard to describe, except perhaps this way: every single person on the Whatever Republic (it's been that long that I visited here, I'm spacing the name; wait, "Freeper", Free Republic). All Freepers are Fuckmooks. Howver, not all Fuckmooks are Freepers.

Basically if you follow the link you will find a prime example in Big Dog.

It was a term coined by New Orleans blogger Ashley Morris.

I can't believe 1) my account here still works and 2) I remember the password. It's been so long. Think I'll have to stop in the Lounge and see if I remember anybody.

11. Because it is not as bad as Katrina
Thousands died there, compared to a few dozen. They haven't even found all the bodies yet. What happened in Iowa is mainly property damage. Also I think New Orleans is a much larger, more densely populated city. Not to mention a lot poorer with most people lacking cars and thus the ability to escape.

hearing and seeing New Orleans drown..right here. Live streams, links to short waves..the media was as disgusting as FEMA. I know that hate breeds hate, so I really try not to wish people ill, but sometimes it is so hard.

14. golf
New Orleans had some really good historic golf courses, even after heavy rains - although that made it hard to mow the fairways.

Iowa/Golf? I don't think so.

End of argument.

17. How many
Iowans are sitting on the side of a road with no water in the hot sun while police, armed to the teeth, keep them from crossing a bridge to get out of the 9th ward?

Help themselves? They tried to escape but were held at gunpoint by armed men. They had lost everything. EVERYTHING. People were kept by force at the stadium in NO - not allowed to leave.

How is it over at the FR?
