See, this demonstrates one of my theories about the republican mindset. They have an extremely weak (or non-existent) natural ability to empathize. Untill something jumps up and bites them in their OWN PERSONAL ASS - they don't get it. This goes way beyond simple NIMBY. Here, we see it in action. We will see republicans be against war with Iran and the occupation of Iraq for Oil - a day or two after the Draft starts and they realize that they can't get out of it, and THEIR own kids have to go.

I don't think it's their fault. They are simply hardwired that way.

Though he supports offshore drilling, Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio (R) “challenged Gov. Charlie Crist and John McCain’s implication that drilling could lower gas prices anytime soon.” Rubio told the Miami Herald today that Crist and McCain are making a “disingenuous” and “flawed” argument:

“For anyone to represent that someone drilling off the coast in Florida is going to lower gas prices here or anywhere in this country is disingenuous and a flawed argument,” he said. “Oil drilling could take 10 years before any oil is pulled out of the ground, and there are a large number of leases held by oil companies that are not being exploited now. We can’t say we need more until we’ve exploited those.”

1. Or, for us realists, they are lying, right?
Mr. Rubio is kinda unique, huh? A Republican who actually speaks the truth.

3. Nope. Rubio is a full blown Jebbite.
If you look up a policy of Jeb Bush from privatizing public schools with vouchers to religious schools to increasing taxes on the poor while cutting taxes for the rich, Rubio is a fervent disciple. Jebbie was never big in supporting offshore drilling because he has huge support from developers. Rubio is his clone in all ways.

4. He's a broken clock.
Other than that, he's just a young but vapid face angling to run for Governor after Crist leaves office.
