I have been an admirer of Sen. Dodd, but this is a DISGRACE.

(More about the details of what has been slipped in to the mortgage bill here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x3360422
from the DU front page)

U.S. Senator Chris Dodd
448 Russell Building | Washington D.C., 20510

Tel: (202) 224-2823 | Fax: (202) 224-1083

30 Lewis St Suite 101 | Hartford, CT 06103
Tel: (860) 258-6940/(800) 334-5341 —CT only
Fax: (860) 258-6958

and here is his Senate website:

http://dodd.senate.gov /

(While the language of the summary of the bill, and the person who answers the phone in Sen. Dodd's office, attempts to imply that transactions under $10,000 will not be reported, it appears that the reality is that only minute businesses that PROCESS less than 200 transactions per year, or which total less that $10,000 per year are excepted from the reporting requirement.)

Does Sen. Dodd care what Democrats think?

1. Are we sure that it was Dodd who put that into the bill at the last moment?
I thought that was still in question.

2. The phone answerer at Sen. Dodd's office says Dodd supports the provision, and sponsors the bill.

Exactly how this came to be slipped into the mortgage reform bill was not addressed.

3. Almost nobody up there has any connection with the regular people.
It's like watching the court of Louis whatever-his-number-was.

4. Slipping this in to a "mortgage reform" bill seems to be K-Street Politics at its worst.
