Had some delicious tomatoes yesterday
They were listed on the white board at the Beaumont Grill in Halletsville, Texas.

Four thick slices ... salt and pepper ... that's good eatin', man.

Thing is ... locally grown tomatoes are good here in Texas but all our big city grocery stores have no idea where their fruit comes from so they have no tomatoes at all. A little diner in Podunk, Texas buys from the guy down the street and know what they are getting.

It's always a good idea to buy locally when buying food.

small guy that has the screwed up process.

I bought my dad a bunch of plants for Father's Day. Roma Tomato, Mint, Strawberry and Arugula. I was amazed how it hardly cost anything. It was funny because we had it in a basket at my sister's and when he finally notices it he asks her if he can have some of the mint plant. He was so happy to find out it was for him. :)

Ironically it was the least I have ever spent on a present. It came out to $7 bucks! I usually try to spend 50-100 on him, but he was so much happier with my plants. The next day, he repotted them in the back yard. They are sooo cute.

2. I don't get this whole tomato thing.
Since when does salmonella penetrate the unbroken skin of a tomato? I was taught to WASH all fruit with warm soapy water as that would prevent a host of ills. Why are mega-tons of tomatoes rotting? Cook the damn things! Problem solved.

4. I would love to buy locally, but it's nearly impossible here except for chiles and peanuts.
I just got back from a vacation in California, and I was so impressed with all the roadside stands and buildings offering locally-grown produce (mostly fruit). We stopped and bought some cherries, among other things, and they were the best I'd ever had. Almost like little plums.

6. Argh! Now you made me want a tomatoe!
We have local farmers supplying the stores around here too.

We haven't had a problem here with the 'icky' ones.

Now I have to go to the store!! :grr:

Oh well; I was heading out anyways. ;)

7. I just got back from picking eight quarts of strawberries.
you know, the ones that are red in the middle, not white. The ones that actually have some flavor. My hands are still red.

The farmer is a fifth generation farmer.

10. One thing we have in Ca-
Shit loads of sunshine. What kind of tomatoes are they? I'm sure there has to be some kind that does better in shade.
