Okay, who SHOULD be Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader?
By now, many Democrats are fed up with Capitulatin' Nancy Pelosi and Cooperatin' Harry Reid.

So who do DUers think OUGHT to be Speaker and Majority Leader? Who has the guts and gumption we want?

(It might also help to consider who has a legitimate chance to replace either one. If I had my druthers, I'd name Dennis Kucinich Speaker and Tom Harkin Leader, but the chances of either of those actually happening are zero.

So -- within the realm of possibility -- I suggest Barney Frank and Hillary.

Just let Illinois liberals run things for a while. Everything will be OK in a few years.

10. Henry Waxman and John Kerry
Though I doubt Kerry would agree with it. Waxman, on the other hand, has been really brave for most of this administration, taking no guff from the other side. However, he is kept busy by other commitments to committees.

If I thought he would live a few more decades, I'd choose Robert Byrd. :)

53. Isn't "moderation" what we have with Pelosi?
How well is that working? Kucinich would be an exceptional choice for Speaker of the House. His stands on Impeachment, the Iraq war, voting against the FISA legislation, and many many other issues where he has always been where WE the people are, more than demonstrate his impeccable qualifications for such a position. Would articles of Impeachment have been sent to die in committee were Kucinich the Speaker?

Divisive and over-accommodating at once. Quite a feat. Only she could manage that. Plus everything she does will be seen thru her angling for another presidential bid.

So a definite no to that. Leahy, Feingold, Feinstein... a few others: plenty of better choices.

At this point, it doesn't even matter WHY. For all we know all this talk of blackmail and anthrax fears may just be our own denial talking, giving these people an excuse for doing what they do so that we do not have to contemplate the abyss if that is the case.

I don't know and I honestly don't care anymore. No more WHYS, there is only WHAT IS.

How do you think he would have handled this situation?

All the hoopla here about Pelosi, but not a word about Hoyer? He's the one most responsible for this sell-out and for caving to the Blue Dogs. Just like the Majority Leader (Reid) sets the agenda in the Senate, so does the Majority Leader in the House...it wasn't Hastert who did the most damage, it was DeLay.

I've long said I'd love to see my senior Senator, Dick Dubin as the next Senate Majority leader...and really have no choice in the House (other than Pelosi needs a solid challenge next year)...but I would like to see a Progressive replace Hoyer...like a Lynn Woolsey or Jan Schakowski.
