I just saw "the Happening"
Of course you already know the plot of the movie. For those of you who don't, spoiler alert. People start dropping dead and they think it is a terrorist at first, then find out it's environmental. Anyway, there is a great scene in there when they are leaving a housing development and there is a billboard that says "You deserve it". Well they were talking about a model home on the billboard and, the director was talking about man bringing about the disaster by his mistreatment of the environment. But, I couldn't help thinking about the repug slogan this year "The Change You Deserve". Of course, this scene was shot way before they chose that slogan, but I just had to laugh. If that isn't a sign of how things are working in our favor, I don't know what is.

Just sharing.

1. is it good overall?
It looks interesting, but Lady in the Water was one of the WORST movies I've ever seen so I'm not sure I can trust Shaymalan anymore.

12. Did you see Lady in the Water?
The Village was disappointing, but no where near the worst movie I've ever seen. Lady in the Water is down there with Spice World, Batman & Robin, Alexander and Gigli.

big screen to make people THINK about the environment and what we are doing to it. At the end of the film, when the "surprise" comes, and then the film is over, people just sat there in silence. They weren't necessarily stunned, but rather meditative and introspective, I thought.

Not his greatest film by any means, but worth seeing. If he got through to ONE person in the theater who previously didn't "get it", he has accomplished worlds of good.

Oh, and it WAS plenty scary.

7. It is very thin soup, IMHO.

I went on Thursday because one of the people I was going to the movies with really wanted to see that one (I wanted to see The Hulk). I had not actually even planned to see The Happening.

There are a couple of nice moments in the picture. I think Betty Buckley is very good in her role (which I won't spoil by describing it). The very last scene is kind of cool, too.

But M. Night S. needs to put his filmic talent into service with other writers. He is just not a very good writer himself. His Sixth Sense was good, and I actually liked Signs, because it was often clever & witty, even if the alien in footie pajamas who could be killed by a glass of water was absurd. Since water is a necessity for life, even the premise was silly, quite apart from the idea of just throwing a glass of water on him (I'm meeeelllltttttiiiiinnnnnggggg!).

I wouldn't have wasted nearly $10 on that film if it were not for the friend who wanted so much to see it.

15. I hated that movie too, but I wonder if H2O
is a necessity for LIFE--or just for "life as we know it"...

The lifeforms we found in environments that would kill us in deep ocean crevasses living on what are, to us, poisons, have made the Trek idea of Class M planets being the only ones that can support life a bit silly.

(Though I totally agree with you in this case--there's almost always humidity in the air, why wasn't the alien in a full biohazard suit and/or covered in lesions?)

8. I liked it
but I absolutely loved Lady in the Water, so maybe you shouldn't ask me. I tend to have odd tastes about some films.

17. It's better than LitW
but that's not saying much, of course. I thought The Happening was okay, and it had some good suspenseful moments, but it's got some big weaknesses as well (odd acting, not a great script, predictable, etc.).

2. Haven't seen it yet.
A friend told me it stunk. I trust this person. So maybe I'll wait for the video. But thanks for the insight. Appreciate it.

4. Is it worth a venture out into the world?
I haven't been to a corporate movie theater in ages-
but I did consider going to see this one.
However, I concur with the poster above-
"Lady in the Water" is one of the WORST films ever made.

9. I personally think the worst film ever made
is "Showgirls". We've had parties to celebrate the complete badness of that movie :spray:

13. No, not Showgirls bad
The acting is good and I liked it, but it is different from his other stuff. I have to agree with a previous poster, it's very thought provoking. It should get people to think about the planet.
