Is This Election That Last Chance To Get Big Media Out Of Your Head?
Does this election represent the last best chance for Americans to get Big Media out or our head? Big Media has expanded its efforts to control the FCC in order to remove obstacles to the expansion of its monopolies. Most media is now controlled by very few companies. However, an Obama presidency threatens to hinder the growth of Big Media if Obama were to appoint FCC commissioners who were against relaxing the limitations on media ownership. This issue is discussed in the Nation's story, "Who Will Unplug Big Media?"

However, is the bias imagined? Well, there was the infamous 2006 ABC memo detailing a major company blacklist of Air America:

Then, there were Disney (ABC's) election eve smears of Democrats in the past two elections:

a. The 2004 "Stolen Honor Controversey":

b. The 2006 "Path to 9/11"

There was also ABC's attempts to hire Rush Limbaugh as an announcer for Monday night football:

These are just some of the more egregious attempts by Big Media to influence the political beliefs of the American public. This is why this election will be pivotal. I am glad the Obama opted out of public financing, because it allows him to respond to the avalanche of innuendoes and psuedo journalism that passes for political news coverage. However, despite Obama charisma, and Americans' distate for the failures of the Bush administration, it will still be hard to overcome the incredible advantages held by Big Media.

If you are reading this, then you have some freedom to avoid the Big Media's thought for the day, though even on the internet, Big Media hosts numerous political blogs that tell you what to think. For those who lack internet access, there view of reality is necessarily limited. This will be an extremely hard election to win given the amounts at stake for Big Media control over the FCC.

Democrats will really need to volunteer more, work twice as hard, and give twice as much to withstand the expected slurs and smears that will be circulated as news by Big Media.

1. I just watched Joy Behr from "The View" on L:arry King Live and King was absolutely
Disgusting.

He kept pestering Behr about Michelle Obama - saying why has she become a lightning rod for the media. As though Michelle is the problem!!

Over the last two weeks the media has done nothing but pick on Michelle. As Behr related to King - Michelle is beautiful, articulate, smart, a success in her own right, and appears to be happily married and blessed with two great kids. She also made her way from High School to the top universities even though she came froma working class background.

But the media is going on and on -- Michelle is angrry, Michelle is a BabY Mamma, Michelle is...

Yet the way King represented things - you would think that Michelle wrote and ASKED these people to focus on her!

2. One Problem With Media Consolidation Is That News Looks Like Reality TV
There is no invesitgative journalism, because it is not profitable, since there are so few competitors. Its cheaper to just show a couple of pundits pulling crap out of their ass, rather than to fund an investigative report with travel and attorneys' fees to go after CPRA requests. Also, in return for giving the Feds a free pass, the Feds do not limit expansion of Big Media. I think Fox is discovering that journalism is dead. The only thing that really matters is "entertainment" disguised as news. So, they stick Oliver North on TV, and let him blab for about 30 minutes, and ratings go up. Heck, why not call Michalle Obama, Barack's baby's mama, then see ratings go up.

Finally, look at the New York Times, which still does some investigative journalism. The White House routinely attacks the NY Times for being liberal despite the fact that the NY Times mostly gave the White House a free pass on Iraq. It is a sad symbiotic relationship where the Big Media does not show what is going on in Iraq (how often have you seen an image of an injured American?), and the White House does not hassle Big Media efforts to expand.
