Poll question: Which best describes your relationship to the global economy?
Let's be old-fashioned and use those worn out Marxist terms for the heck of it! Rich, middle class, and poor are too boring. They also suggest that anyone can go up and down the scales. Wheeee!!!

Let's see where you land!

I AM RICH. I OWN THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION!

(if you don't recognize the above: those are the many elevators in the lobby of your 22 story home.)

I AM BOURGEOIS. I AM A HIGHLY PAID PROFESSIONAL WHO SERVES THE RICH!

(This house is $800,000: nice place for a corporate lawyer or media pundit!)

I AM PROLETARIAN! I WORK FOR A LIVING DAY IN AND OUT!

I AM LUMPENPROLETARIAN! I DON'T EVEN HAVE THE MEANS TO GET WORK!

If you fall smack in the middle. Like, say, you're upper-lumpen or lower-prole or way richer than rich, let us know!

3. prole, lifelong, but financially secure and retired.
We are USA-poor: We own our home and 2 cars, have no real financial worries, no major debts. Retired at age 59, soon to be 61.

4. Prole
im reasonably well paid, but I had to move to Europe to do it!
Actually I was well paid BEFORE all the IT jobs were shipped to India.
Now im well paid, my pay checks covers our modest house (3 bed 1 1/2 bath)
and my job pays for my commute (355 a month and I use every penny)

Medical (technically ood, but the docs here suck - IE lazy) is taken care of
Dental.. um... my teeth brush
Optical (see dental) don't need it yet as I still have 20/20
mental.... case of beer ;)

and then there's my wife's pay check which is all toys!

5 weeks vacation - OMFG I never realized how much stress went into only having 10 days off a year. I can take a day here n there, and STILL have time enough for my upcoming 3 week vacation in the summer! :)

It's nice. It's a slower pace than the US, but I have realized that working harder, does not mean a better life anymore.
I killed myself working in the US. I'm still working hard (smarter) here but I'm not killing myself.
Friday afternoons are much more laid back, and there is overall less enmity for the company as a whole.

We are certifiable in the US. if they increased the yearly vacation to 3 weeks from 2, I gurantee a massive reduction in overall stress. Free mental health, available whenever to employees (I miss that option here) would about eliminate all serious hatred for employers and the like.

The smallest things (to the rich) would so greatly improve everyone's lives!

as far as the bottom end. They are also taken care of here. The bottom here is higher than in the US, but it's the same trap. You can't ease your way out of being on the Dole, it's all or nothing. That is what really affects unemployment here, not allochtonen (me, people not born of holland).

Racism is everywhere, even "open minded Holland"

5. I suppose I'm proletarian, but that house is more than I'll ever have
So I guess lower-prole.

Although I am quite happy with the two bedroom one bathroom one story house that we're looking at.
