Jindal vows to secure death sentence for child rape
http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/uncategorized/jindal-vows-to-secure-death-sentence-for-child-rape_10064933.html

"By Arun Kumar

Washington, June 26 (IANS) Louisiana’s Governor Bobby Jindal has said he will seek to enact laws that would invalidate a US Supreme Court ruling which struck down the death penalty for raping a child. “One thing is clear,” said Republican Jindal, “the five members of the court who issued the opinion do not share the same standards of decency as the people of Louisiana.”

(me, I'm thinking the obvious...)

5. I do too
but after his "performance" as governor the past two weeks, jindal is most likely kryptonite to mccain right now.

3. If the state legislature lets him
piyush, dubbed by limbaugh as the next ronald reagan is too afraid to veto a bill (which he stated in writing that he would do during the campaign) which doubles the payraises of state legislatures cause he's afraid they'll be mean to him in the future. And now he's huffing and puffing and taking on the supreme court??

The people of Louisiana elected him governor, that's about all I need to know about their decency.

10. His margin of victory
was so great that I think "people" had a hand in the decision. I love Louisiana, my heart is there, although my real estate is in Mississippi. Listening to jindal campaign last year made me wanna puke and the election results just astounded me. I guess all ya gotta say is I got conservative values and wa-la you are elected (works the same way in Mississippi.)

12. Why does the margin of victory have anything to do with it....
...the numbers can be manipulated to say anything the ones who count the votes want them to be.

15. Who did the manipulating?
I think there is plausibility in that argument relative to a close election (2000 presidential.) The results of the election mirrored (rather closely) his polls before the election and through this year until about a week ago.

If they were manipulated, who actually won the popular vote?

14. ...about Jindal being elected gov. of Louisiana...
It went down like this:

for some reason, all of our Democratic candidates put together
were like a clown circus...
that's inexcusable right there, if you ask me.
In addition, the Republicans in this state
were just salivating for a candidate that had not already disgraced himself...
I think they were overjoyed to run to the polls and pull that lever
for a guy that they thought was a republican AND clean
plus, he is a religious freakazoid...
of course, much of the religious goo had been scrubbed from his website during the campaign
(but I had looked at it a year or two ago, when he was running for something else)

even thought it's the pay-raise issue that is in the news
and of course now the death-penalty quotes
that's not the only reason his honeymoon was non-existent
seems that he refuses to meet or talk with ANY of the state legislators
and they are some kind of mad, let me tell you....

16. Interesting
article in the sunday T-P opining that Mary Landrieu will probably be reelected because the state citizenry are afraid to elect another david vitter.

jindal really sucks for a career politician. He isn't talking to Tucker who has played him like a fiddle recently.

4. That should be a neat trick
It is one thing to re write a poorly written law.

Another thing altogether to try to do something the SC has banned. If it were easy then soutrhern legislatures would have found a way to continue segregation by now.

6. What a Whiny ass Loser
"standards of decency as the people of Louisiana.”

Would that include putting nooses in trees at a certain high school or the shooting of people trying to find shelter while New Orleans drowned, that kind of "standards of decency"?

7. Indeed, they haven't got the same standards of decency.
They probably think it's rather indecent to exploit child rape victims for political gain.

8. But if she was 11 or 12 and got pregnant
dick-head Jindal would force her to bear the rapist's child.

What an asshole...

13. given the basis of the court's decision, that verges on impossible
Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 01:01 PM by enki23
the court decided the case based primarily on the idea that a punishment, in order to not be cruel or unusual, should be proportional to the crime it punishes. further, they determined that death is not proportional to rape, even of a child. i don't know what law he thinks he's going to enact that will change any of that.

of course, this is all show anyway. he must be stumping for a VP slot, or something similar.

18. Jindal signs chemical castration bill
Characterizing sex offenders as monsters, Gov. Bobby Jindal signed legislation Wednesday that would force convicted rapists and others to undergo chemical castration.

“I am glad we have taken such strong measures in Louisiana to put a stop to these monsters’ brutal acts,” the governor said in a prepared statement.

Jindal signed Senate Bill 144 into law on the day that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Louisiana cannot execute people who rape children under the age of 12.

The governor blasted the high court’s decision.

22. Rape can be done with objects, as well
Isn't the payoff mental for the offender, anyways?

One doesn't need an erection to be a sicko, that is for sure.

20. I am against the death penalty across the board
Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 01:16 PM by Zodiak Ironfist
I am doubly against it when that person never killed anyone.

We have to get off of the vengeance kick...and eye for an eye makes us all go blind. That is all this is about, because if it was about how a child's life is destroyed afterwards, we would be clamoring to put physically and mentally abusive parents up on the guillotine, as well. Their effect on a child is much the same.
