Lieberman Must Go petition
From the petition link:
"We CANNOT tolerate a leader of the Senate Democratic Caucus who supports George Bush and McCain's War in Iraq. We CANNOT tolerate a Democratic chairman of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee who endorses and stumps for McCain. We call on the Senate Democratic Steering Committee to strip Joe Lieberman of his chairmanship and his leadership role."

Please, weigh in by adding your own thoughts or just sign the petition, either way, 'Joe Must Go' and here is where you can help:

Thank You

2. I agree
They have pretty well proven that they don't give a fuck about us, the constitution, the law, anything. They are in power and we are just the peasantry. Petitions don't do shit. End of subject.

3. Good, you have the right to give up.
I haven't and I will keep posting petitions for others who also haven't given up. I will continue to call my Congressmen, I will continue to donate what $$ I can, I will protest out in the streets when I can, I will post my thoughts in the DU, I will continue to vote and I will continue to put bumper stickers on my truck's bumper. You of course have the right to give up on any of these and any other forms of democracy I might have missed. Good luck out there...

6. I STRONGLY DISAGREE
Petitions DO have their place even if you think this is not the case. Would you be advocating here the removal of petitions from the democratic process entirely? ("no more fucking petitions").

Furthermore our petition if signed by enough of the electorate, is a tool that can be used by those in Congress who already feel as we do.

If 'The Powers that Be' (as you call them), are a bunch of evil bastards who don't care about the electorate, then they will only get away with what they can......if you want to give them a yard then they may get the notion that it is OK to get away with more than that yard...it is up to We The People to push back....this petition is in a sense a form of pushing back.

FWIW I don't want to see the greedy or the dead-weight remaining in congress either...this petition is about stripping a measure of power from one of these assholes. It is a small step in the right direction along a long road. Each petition like this is but another step...stand aside if you wish...

12. Real Petitions With Real Signatures...
Unfortunately online petitions are a dime a dozen these days and sure feel good to do but do little else. They're like online polls. Want to get a politicians attention? Bring 100,000 REAL signitures, real people, real organizing, real activism. Too many think that by sitting at home and clicking that will change the world...the online world still hasn't replaced elbow grease and shoe leather.

Regarding Joementum, I am firmly in support of backbenching his ass and I keep hearing that if he speaks at the GOOP convention that will all but asure his exile from the Democratic caucus and then, should Democrats win seats in the upcoming election, he will be stripped of his seniority...losing his chairmanships and being made totally irrelevant. Actually he is right now...Democrats have enough problems with keeping our own house in order and fighting as a team, Joe's a pain in the ass, but the it's up to the good people of Connecticutt determine his ultimate fate...either through a recall or bouncing his sorry ass out in 2012.

15. Point made about online petitions
After investigating a rebuttal I came across devastating confirmation of what you say:
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/petition/internet.asp
This will likely be my last passed along e-petition henceforth...I was under the mis-understanding that they accomplished more than just getting the word out. I'll stick with online essays after this instead.

21. Best Words Are Always You're Own
I'm always careful as to whose petition I sign...even online...as you can never know whose really behind it...especially with the "new" FISA laws that assures the government can and will snoop...having a name in addition to the IP only makes the job easier.

The word needs to be out...there should be no tolerance within the Democratic caucus, or the party in general, for the crap Liebermann's pulled and you're intentions are both good and worthy. The push has to be on Senators and that means showing up at their town halls or knocking on the office doors, I even doubt they pay attention to their own online polls.

Keep posting, writing letters and talking to people...speak with your own voice and your conviction and passion will do more of a sales job than anything else.

Cheers...

Thanks again for signing that petition but I fear that we are misled, (see link). You and I both felt we were doing the right thing but it appears that the effectiveness of online petitions is much less than what we would expect....I figured it was best that I let ya know what I just found out.

8. Hmmm... can you clarify for me something?
Who needs him???? Sorry, not giving or asking for flames here but I don't understand who you are referring to when you say: "They need him until then." . (FWIW I DO believe that these guys need him: the republicans party; the bfee, mCcain; Big Oil; the M.I.C.; and the paranoid chickenhawks who want to bomb Iran.)

9. Of course McSame needs him
But the dems need to ensure the majority before they kick him to the curb. So many reason's to kick the asshat to the curb. But its an election, and anything can happen. The only reason the dems are in the majority is because Lieberman voted for Reid over McConnell for Majority leader.

10. Ahh....yes. Now I see where you are coming from, thanks
Next question, would stripping him of those powers prior to the election (as suggested in the petition) have an impact negatively affecting the Dems current position in the Senate?

11. I can only think of really 1 thing
For issues other than the war, LIEberman usually does vote with the dems. Stripping his power too soon may cause a vote that the dems need before January. And counting on winning all the races that we think the dems are going to win from rethugs is a gamble.

13. Sounds like a suck up but a valid point none-the-less.
I can see the Dems letting Sen. Joe "Palpatine"* Lieberman keep those positions as a means to keep him voting Dem for now. (Frankly I don't know what his voting record is actually). BTW I was honestly prepared to remove this petition link if you had come up with an even better valid reason to leave Joe's positions of leadership alone. I'll be leaving it up even though your point is valid.
(It galls me to think of my Senators as being suck ups like this though!) Thank you for clearing things up for me.

23. As usual: GREAT PIC!
btw: I am honored by a response from Swamp Rat, (and the great pic), but this is a thread which started out supporting an online petition. After posting this I discovered much to my disappointment that online petitions are worth about the same thing as used toilet paper. http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/petition/internet.asp
I suspect that you already knew this but just in case I figured I should say something.

PS: Any chance of seeing Senator Obama's head on Spiderman's body swinging off to Washington DC with Mary Jane Whatly-(sp?) and Michelle Obama standing side by side saying "Go Get Em Tiger"? Silliness???, yeah...but I think silly thoughts like this all the time!

26. Very Nice!
'Geaux' = modern cajun 'go', plus the ripple in the water...very poignant! Blue is so peaceful... Senator Obama truly is a ripple of hope for NOLA as well as the rest of us. Folks hit by the tag team of Hurricane Katrina-bushco could see this as a very powerful image indeed! Well done.

I've looked and looked for the Marvel Spiderman image I have in my minds eye...someday I'll find it and perhaps I'll be able to talk ya into working with it.

I'll save ya the trouble of reading this entire thread but....
First off, we agree, Joementum needs to be dealt with BUT I have had a change of heart regarding this petition...well online petitions to be more precise. I was looking up a challenge to a fellow DUer who pointed out that online petitions were a dime a dozen and useless when I ran across this link: http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/petition/internet.asp Needless to say I felt devastated! I thought about asking a mod to remove this thread but then I thought otherwise as it could prove useful for others who are being misled into thinking that adding our names to these petitions is doing something good.

I confess to still wanting to support petitions like this and I will likely continue to allow them into my e-mail, (that's where I found this one), but I'll not be posting them here anymore. Snopes is someone I hold in fair regards, if they say something is all but a waste of time I would be hard pressed to argue with them. I have gone through this thread and let folks know about the Snopes link... I feel terrible that these online petitions are so much less effective than I would have liked. Well that means more time for e-mailing or calling those congressmen of mine huh?

btw: I checked out your published article and said nice things about it. In case you missed it I stated that it is an important part of democracy that the electorate gets informed by writers like you.

(edited to fix a grammar issue)
