Cops: Baby, 2, Spent Six Days in Sacramento Home with Dead Mother
SACRAMENTO, CA - A 2-year-old boy was discovered alive inside a Sacramento home Thursday with the deceased remains of his mother, who authorities think may have been dead for nearly a week, according to Sacramento police.
The child was found in the home on the 3100 block of Judah Street in north Sacramento by a Child Protective Services social worker Thursday morning, Sacramento police Sgt. Matt Young said.
Young said the worker went to the home around 10:30 a.m. Thursday to investigate an allegation of child neglect. The CPS employee knocked on the door and got no answer, but she heard a child crying inside the home. Knowing the mother had a history of medical problems, the worker called police. Officers and Sacramento City Fire personnel forced their way inside to find the child alone with the body of his mother.
Young said it is believed the mother had been dead for up to six days. An autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of the woman's death.
