Smithville Restaurant In Trouble For Name
SMITHVILLE, Mo. -- A local family business is facing legal trouble because of its name.

The Justus family has owned a drugstore on Main Street in Smithville since 1914.

One year ago, Jonathan Justus turned the store into a high-end restaurant that has received national acclaim.

He wanted to honor the family store's history, so he kept the name Justus Drugstore.

The State Board of Pharmacy is demanding he remove the word "drugstore" because there is no pharmacist on duty.

"We lose our name, we lose all of that name recognition. We lose everything we've worked for and we lose our family history," Justus said.

No one with the Board of Pharmacy would comment on camera. Officials said if Justus Drugstore doesn't change its name by July 10, further legal action will be taken.

1. I'd keep the name and await the threatened "further legal action".
I think that, at some point, SOMEONE at the Board of Pharmacy
will pull their head out of their ass and say "Let's drop this nonsense".

2. BS.. If a town is "of a certain size" and a particular family
is well-known in the community, their name IS transferable to other businesses..

Maybe they are lazy and don't want to change the bank accounts, stationery business licenses

What if the family had run Justus Funeral Home.. would they want the restaurant to have THAT name??

or Justus Trash Hauling

or Justus Carpet Cleaners

10. Apparently it is a state law
Well that is what the pharmacy board is claiming.

3. You have to wonder what this kind of
publicity campaign would cost, especially for a startup restaurant. As long as they get the name right any pub is good pub.

5. What if
the family's last name was "Drugstore"?

Maybe they should change it to "Justus Fuck You Board of Pharmacy".

6. Wait 'til they see Paree!
I used to love the Salade Nicoise at Le Drugstore in Paris. It's a restaurant (actually a chain) and there's no pharmacist on duty.

7. Just change the damn name. If Smithville isn't big, people will still recognize the family name.
There is no need to tie up court resources for this matter.

8. Hey, open up a little closet pharmacy, in the restaurant...
Have a pharmacist on duty to prepare prescriptions, could even be a retired Pharmacist that only works an hour or two a day, for the restaurant patrons. Problem solved and what a gimmick for kicks.

9. Ha! I live in K.C. Smithville isn't that big.
If the business has been there for decades, then everyone in town knows the family. Everyone also knows that they turned it into a restaurant. Not for one second do I buy the argument that this man Justus makes.

Having said that, I don't see anything wrong with hoim wanting to keep the same name for his business. The Board of Pharmacy should lighten up.
