Hill on HRC's drawl: If she was at GLAAD, would she use a lisp?
On the March 6 edition of Fox News Live, while discussing Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-NY) March 4 speech and her participation in a commemorative civil rights march in Selma, Alabama, host E.D. Hill accused Clinton of affecting a "Southern drawl" during her speech and asked pollster Scott Rasmussen: "Would it happen elsewhere, if she was attending, say, a GLAAD convention, would she speak with a lisp?" Hill continued: "If she were attending a Hispanic convention, would she speak with a Spanish accent? Or if she were attending an African-American convention, would she start throwing out phrases -- you know 'Homies, here I am'?"

Hill also mocked a portion of Clinton's speech, in which Clinton quoted Rev. James Cleveland's hymn, "I don't feel noways tired." After airing that excerpt of Clinton's speech, Hill stated: "Well, I don't feel noways tired, neither" and asserted that "it did seem sort of strange to hear a Yankee affecting a Southern drawl." Hill did not mention that Clinton was quoting a hymn.

Ms Hill, if you were speaking at a Republican convention, would you use a German accent? :sarcasm:

4. Why are you quoting/promoting Fox News here on DU?
And why are you still going on about this totally trumped-up, falsified Republican slur??

5. Local scumbag radio talk show was criticizing Hillary's "accent" yesterday
I didn't hear republicons complain about dimwad's fake accent during his presidential campaigns.

Bill Clinton was Governor of Arkansas from 1979 to 1981 and 1983 to 1992.
Hillary lived from 1947 to ?? in Park Ridge, Illinois.
Attended Wellesley College
Entered Yale Law School in 1969
Sometime after the Nixon impeachment proceedings and before 1975 she moved to Arkansas where they married in 1975
Hillary spent at least 17 years in Arkansas. Plenty of time to be assimulated into Arkansas way of talking.

6. And it's natural for it to return when you're replaced in the setting.
It isn't necessarily an affectation at all.

I had a friend once from West Virginia who has a strong accent. He worked very hard to eliminate it for professional reasons, and was eventually successful. However, when he would return to visit his family, it came right back as naturally as a fish swims.

9. That is the point I was trying to make
Hillary spent enough years in my opinion to be heard as a southern.

I found a website that had audio of different people born and living in Arkansas and the women didn't sound much different from Hillary.

8. That's not entirely true...
I'm Texas-born, Texas-bred, but I don't have the accent. I can pull it off if needed, sure, but my mother came from Pennsylvania, so that played a big role in my speech development.

Then there's Terry Gilliam, Minnesota native and the only American-born member of Monty Python's Flying Circus. For a while, he affected a really bad British accent (like Madonna did for a while), but now Terry just sounds like an American who spent 40 years in the UK. (I think he's now a UK citizen - the Bush 43 administration drove him to renounce his US citizenship, IIRC.)

10. I'm sorry, but the accent was a joke
Hill is an idiot, but Ms. Clinton sounded like someone playing a southener in a B movie.
