Gas Pains for One and All
All right, enough is enough. We (and I speak for all Americans) are god-damn sick and tired of being robbed by the big oil companies at the gas pump. Last year the top five oil companies made a profit of $155 BILLION at the gas pumps. ExxonMobil alone made $40.6 BILLION PROFIT!
So it occurred to me that maybe ExxonMobil is being a bit greedy, and should be satisfied with, say, TEN BILLION dollars profit. Now, ten billion dollars is a considerable amount. How much of a reduction in gas prices could ExxonMobil put into effect to end up with ten billion dollars in profit? Maybe they could knock off one or two bucks a gallon from their price of gas. Don’t you think that would be like a breath of fresh air sweeping across the nation? And the other oil companies would follow suit. Think of how much help that would be to the economy, and to every individual, and every small (and large) business. Why, it would be almost miraculous! Of course, that would call for the greedy, blood-sucking bastards who run the oil companies to ask themselves, “What can we do for our country? What can we do for all the Americans who helped make us as rich as Bill Gates?”
Can you imagine them asking these questions of themselves? And coming up with the right answers.
I can not.
Unless they do, I would suggest the American public boycott the biggest offender, which would be ExxonMobil, on a once=a-week basis. Sunday, for example. Let’s all agree not to buy any Exxon or Mobil gas on Sundays. No income on one day a week should have some effect on them. If it doesn’t, we can always increase it to two days a week, and so on, until they drop their prices.
What do you guys think?

But your boycott will most likely result in higher profits days one through six.

I have what I think is a much much better suggestion.
For the price of two SUVs worth of gas, go down to your local bike shop
and buy a bike and a cheap kids trailer.

Not a dime store bike, but a bike that will hang together for a few years.

Then, ride it and the trailer to the grocery store (convenience store, hardware store, pharmacy, farmer's market, etc) instead of the car. You will buy fewer things you don't need, cook a few things from scratch you might not have before, and you will not use any gas at all getting there.

That, I guarantee they will feel.

3. The Snopes link provided is not exactly your letter, but the idea is
the same, and the explanation provided as to why it doesn't work that way is pretty good.
