What happened to CNN??
I've been at sea a lot the last couple of years and now that I'm back I can't believe what I am seeing on CNN's so-called Newshour. They are shamelessly trashing Barack Obama. It was totally comical to watch them air a quote of Wes Clarke saying (and I paraphrase) "being shot down in an airplane doesn't qualify you to be president". They had the gall to call that "swiftboating". Is this what CNN has come to or was it a fluke?

They were the one American MSM source that I could still watch without being sick.

17. Actually, i should give you a better answer than that.
If there was one event that started CNN on the road to becoming the pathetic mess it is now, it was the hiring of Walter Isaacson:

Published in the Monday, August 6, 2001 issue of Roll Call
Going Backwards
CNN Chief Courts GOP
by John Bresnahan and Mark Preston

In an effort to improve his network's image with conservative leaders, new CNN chief Walter Isaacson huddled with House and Senate GOP leaders last week to seek advice on how to attract more right-leaning viewers to the sagging network.

Isaacson met with Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.), House GOP Conference Chairman J.C. Watts (Okla.), Rep. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) to talk about CNN's image with conservatives and how it can be improved.

24. Dunno about "all" but there are a disturbing no. of energy company ads on MSNBC.
Whenever I see them I wonder how much Olbermann is pulling his punches as a result.

3. It's typical. No change. They've been biased for years.
The international edition might be OK. Don't know but the US version is a shill for the powers
that be. They're just showing it more now that there's a campaign.

4. serious?
they call THAT swiftboating? how rich! sounds like an opinion of a high level general saying that being shot down (or destroying one's own plane several times) doesn't mean you're qualified to be president...

6. Winning a Silver Star in Vietnam doesn't qualify you to be President
If the Swiftboaters had made that claim as their central point, I wouldn't have had a problem with it. They would have been right. But what they did instead was call Kerry a liar and claim that he never actually faced enemy fire, despite the testimonials of his own crew. They attacked his integrity and his character.

8. Exactly
which why I was so shocked at the commentary on CNN. It began with the anchor, in an outraged manner, telling how Wes Clarke had "swift-boated" McCain. Then they showed the clip and I was like "THAT'S IT!?!?" It was, to anyone with half a brain, one man's opinion that contained no accusations, lies or propaganda and that was delivered in a very civil manner. It was absolutely nowhere in the same UNIVERSE as the disgusting campaign of lies waged by the "Swift-Boat Veterans for Truth".

I am turning this shit off. Between the fracas in the lounge yesterday over the EuroCup, the negative news coverage in this country and an email war with my husband... :eyes:

Edited on Mon Jun-30-08 01:04 AM by quantessd
He signaled their downward spiral into the toilet.

Edit to add: I added the caps myself, because you might as well call "CNN-headline news" the GLENN BECK station, since they feature him, 3 hours of prime time, each week-night.

In fact there is no such thing as investigative reporting in the MSM today, it is more like entertainment tonight

The only place on the idiot box where I get my news now is Bloomberg

16. EXAMPLE
I just came from their site. They were flashing a phony poll showing Obama and McCain just about tied. ( Like any sane person could believe that!!!!) They also have a headline reading.
McCain: Obama's word can't be trusted. They are doing their best to shape the public's perception. As soon as all of the media, not just CNN, started to present McCain as a legitimate, and viable candidate, I knew we were all in a lot of trouble!!!! WE ARE ALL IN A LOT OF TROUBLE!!!

18. CNN used to be a reliable source
for relatively unbiased news. and CNN Headline news used to be a useful 30 minute round-up of what was happening in the nation and abroad, plus some sports and weather. I'm, not certain exactly when that changed, but it pains me enormously that I can no longer tune into either CNN or CNN headline news to get a quick look at what's happening.

25. Ted Turner's departure from management signalled the end
I had a lot of issues with Turner, but if nothing else he was determined to keep CNN as independent and unbiased as was practical for a commercial network.

You are correct in there isno other news source left that is not right wing.
Oddly, the right always complains the TV media is left wing.

29. MSNBC this morning is doing their share of editorializing about what Clark said
Andrea Mitchell says that Clark "attacked" McCain's military record. The lady on before her who reads the news said Clark "distorted" McCain's record. These are not journalists, but infotainers who just want to stir up crap without reference to facts.
