McCain denies his record of supporting Social Security privatization
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/13/mccain-denies-his-record-of-supporting-social-security-privatization/

Link has Video:

During his town hall event in New Hampshire yesterday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) got into a verbal back and forth with a voter over his support for Social Security privatization. McCain told the man, “I’m not for, quote, privatizing Social Security. I never have been. I never will be.” Watch it:

But McCain’s record begs to differ:

- “Without privatization, I don’t see how you can possibly, over time, make sure that young Americans are able to receive Social Security benefits.”

- “As part of Social Security reform, I believe that private savings accounts are a part of it — along the lines that President Bush proposed.”

Not only was McCain “a big booster” of Bush’s 2005 plan to privatize Social Security, but one of his top economic advisers, Carly Fiorina, recently told conservative radio host Bill Bennett that McCain “supports private accounts as one of the ways to reform the system” and that “he will continue to be supportive of those.”

3. What is that device you're using there? And how does it know all these things about me?
Remember, Straight-Talkin' Johnny Maverick isn't real computer savvy. The notion that some people might have "recordings" of what he said in by-gone days (like 2005) just doesn't occur to him. It's not like anyone's been able to do that to him before when he's run in Arizona.

The question now is whether our popular media will interrupt their man crush on STJM long enough to notice that he's talking out his pasty white ass.

2. We do have private savings accounts, they are called 401k's or IRA's and other names
That shouldn't affect SS IMHO.

4. And The Corporate Media Looks The Other Way...Again
Gramps has more waffles than my nearby IHOP...I can't think of many things, other than his bloodlust for endless war, that he hasn't flipped on. If this were Al Gore, he would have been completely disected and ridiculed, but since Gramps has such good BBQ and he is a good friend of the owners of the corporate media powers, he gets kid gloves.

How anyone can even mention "privitization" after what we've been seeing happen with the markets over the last year deserves to be beaten with sticks. Millions have seen their savings wiped out and the companies that Gramps champions as the "savior" are the ones who did the wiping out. But that's ok...let the GOOP keep trying this bullshit and they'll lose a lot of the only vote Gramps may get...his peers.

6. Of course now that the stock market is in the toilet, he flip flops like a fish out of water
John McCain has made social security privatization a big part of his agenda over the past several years. The man is truly without honor or honesty in now denying what he has affirmed repeatedly, just because the stock market has now fallen.
