Six paratroopers from 82nd killed in Iraq

The Associated Press
Posted : Tuesday Mar 6, 2007 16:20:14 EST

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The six soldiers killed when a bomb exploded near their vehicles on Monday in Iraq’s Salahuddin province were members of the 82nd Airborne Division, the division said Tuesday.

It was the single largest loss of life in the past three years for the Fort Bragg-based division, said division spokesman Maj. Tom Earnhardt.

Three paratroopers were wounded in the bombing and their conditions weren’t immediately known, Earnhardt said.

Names of the paratroopers weren’t released while their families were being notified, Earnhardt said. The paratroopers were members of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team and were assigned to Task Force Lightning.

“The loss of any paratrooper under any circumstances is tragic and unacceptable to us,” Earnhardt said.

Earnhardt said 80 paratroopers have now died in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

The division of about 17,000 soldiers has some 8,300 paratroopers in Iraq and about 6,100 on duty in Afghanistan. Another brigade is scheduled to deploy to Iraq this summer.

6. Yes, they are all part of the same command
...'Task Force Lightening' lost 9 last night - these 6 in one incident and 3 in another. Both were roadside bombings. There are earlier threads in LBN posted about midnight last night.

3. Could the Bush Regime please inform the
Iraqaedites that the "Defeat-o-crats" won in November so they stop killing people over there?

365 US servicemembers since Nov 2006, I don't even want to estimate how many innocent iraqis...

Shouldn't Faux WH Propaganda network be busily disseminating this information?

4. Wait, wait, wait. Wait just a damn minute here. WTF is the deal with Earnhardt?
“The loss of any paratrooper under any circumstances is tragic and unacceptable to us,” Earnhardt said.

Earnhardt said 80 paratroopers have now died in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
