John McCain is Not the Moral Authority on War
by: Brandon Friedman
Mon Jun 30, 2008 at 10:26:06 AM EDT

As we begin the work of counteracting those attacking General Wesley Clark (Ret.) for daring to say that John McCain's experience in Vietnam doesn't qualify him to be the Commander-in-Chief, let's not forget that Clark, too, returned home from Vietnam on a stretcher after being shot four times.

John McCain served honorably, he endured pain that few in this country can imagine, and his life was turned upside down--forever. But he is not the only American to have suffered in a war. Clark returned with grievous injuries, as have thousands of troops who've served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

John McCain's service to the nation during Vietnam was admirable, but it made him no more qualified to be President than any other young officer who has returned from Iraq paralyzed from the neck down.

John McCain knows things about war that civilians can never know. He has sacrificed more and suffered more than most Americans ever will. John McCain is a war veteran. Just like the rest of us.

The media needs to understand this.

2. So did John Kerry ... I still remember those fucking blue band-aids
Rethugs do not OWN MILITARY VALOR ... We MUST NOT allow them to denigrate
OUR DEMOCRATIC HEROES any further. A man who served CAN ALSO criticize
military action (Kerry). A man who served CAN QUESTION whether another
man's service alone automatically qualifies him to be president (Clark).
Criticism and questioning DOES NOT take away the fact that both those
Dems served HONORABLY and ARE HEROES.

3. Yes, I remember those band-aids. How come no one complained
about them? Likewise with the Swift-boaters. I don't remember anyone coming to Kerry's defense, like the m$m is doing currently for McSame. Definitely different reactions depending on who's saying what and from which party. No double standard at work here.

4. "War is too important to be left to the generals." Georges Clemenceau
Or, military "heroes" that use their medals as qualifications.
