Has the worry of a threat of war with Iran EASED?
Today I heard that the stock market experienced a little spike because the dollar had gained ground, and the price of oil fell a few dollars a barrel because the threat of a war with Iran had eased. Did I miss something?

BTW, the spike was short lived - something to do with interest rates, I think.

1. Nope, I have not heard that there is any let up in wanting to attack Iran....
My thoughts are that this will go on until we have an elected President and if it happens to be Obama... Look out below from a Bush attack on Iran.

4. 15 divisions isnt enough ....
If they actually moved across the border, then Iraq would be exposed ....

There will be no great invasion of Iran ...

10. Doesnt matter ...

1) Use of tactical nukes makes the theater uninhabitable for US troops ...

2) Still not enough 'divisions' to hold Persian ground ....

Just enough to piss off everyone, and force the Iranians to respond conventionally, who have nearly one million troops available .... Iran would not be invaded, but Iraq would .... Anyone who thinks the Iranian leadership cares about a spotty battlefield isn't doing the math .... They have enough to lose soldiers and still wash over the border .... They won't lose that many ...

This would be a strategic nightmare for the Generals, who have made it clear that do not intend to invade Iran .... Perhaps you haven't been listening when they speak ...

14. Since you are 'in tune' with the general's thinking, I'm sure you
are aware that the U.S. Army consists of 10 active divisions in total. The marines have 4 active divisions.

15. Look ... The math doesnt add up ...
Last week, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Michael Mullen, declared there would be NO invasion of Iran in the near future .... It was roundly accepted as the thinking of the General's corp, and an indication that the Military is NOT planning on executing an invasion anytime soon. Perhaps you missed it while you were counting ...

I am not sure WHAT it is you wish to happen, but the numbers do NOT bear out your argument ... They are not going to expend their 'ten divisions' in a confrontation with the Iranians, on THEIR turf, while they simultaneously attempt to maintain order in Iraq and Afghanistan ..... AINT gonna happen ....

Your good sense has been rattled by the sabres .... I would commit to a recount, if I were you ....

I'm saying this in the nicest way possible ....

I would advise these stories:

Enough ....

Yeah ... right ....

Ignore the Joint Chief's judgement, and insert your own instead ... after all, YOU know better ....

:sarcasm:

I will not engage you any longer .... It's just a waste of my time ....

9. That's a good trick, considering the whole US Army has only ten active divisions.
"The U.S. Army currently consists of 10 divisions as well as several independent units. "

8. It dove again after the spike --
and as I said, they attributed the spike to a lessening of concern about an Iran attack. I wonder what the hell they were talking about. (It was just part of the news report on NPR today - not an entire segment or anything).

11. Here's the story
Oil prices fall heavily as Iran tensions ease

NEW YORK (AFP) — Oil prices fell sharply Monday in a move some traders attributed to an ease in geopolitical tensions related to Iran's nuclear program and a strengthening US dollar.

<snip>

Prices cooled after Iran offered to negotiate on its nuclear drive over the weekend, but without a freeze on uranium enrichment, in its first comments since responding to an international package aimed at ending the standoff.

EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said he hoped to meet later this month with Iran's top nuclear negotiator, after Tehran gave its response to a package of incentives aimed at halt its uranium enrichment.

"Following the news that Iran may be prepared to compromise on its nuclear development program, oil prices are a little softer," said analysts at the John Hall Associates energy consultancy in London.

meeting? See what happens when you send the White House Playboy off to play? The grownups solve the crisis.
