Sarkozy is no wimp : bashed Bush at G8
source : http://hillblogger3.blogspot.com/

This year's G8 summit in Toyako, on the island of Hokkaido in Japan began today with a revelation by former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe that President Bush and President Sarkozy had a "ferocious verbal dispute" during last year's G8 summit which was held in Germany.

Here's the AFP wire posted by Le Monde:

"Féroce" dispute entre Sarkozy et Bush à Heiligendamm, selon Shinzo Abe ("Ferocious" dispute between Sarkozy and Bush according to Shinzo Abe)

(American president George W Bush and French president Nicolas Sarkozy "ferociously" argued during the G8 summit in Heiligendamm (Germany) last year, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who was witness to the dispute revealed on Sunday.)

Interviewed by Japan's private TV network Asahi on what happened at the summit in June 2007, Mr Abe confirmed that discussions on climate change was "rather animated."

More specifically, President Bush and President Sarkozy had a ferocious dispute," added the former chief of the Japanese conservative government.

President Sarkozy used words that were very strong," continued Mr Abe saying that Pres Sarkozy's reaction could have been due to the fact that it was the first summit for the French president who had been elected only a month before.

Asked by the TV Asahi journalist if Mr Sarkozy had threatened to walk out of the summit, Mr Abe who was smiling, answered: "He said something to that effect.

Discussions at the summit never follow planned or prepared script scenarios." Many world leaders have strong character and speak eloquently of their points of view and of their nation's interests, added the former Japanese prime minister.

Messieurs Bush and Sarkozy, however, met each other several times after the summit at Heiligendamm, and have improved Franco-American relations which had seriously deteriorated during the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 following the refusal by Paris to support the war.
