4. I don't really have a problem with it, either.
Just because some areas of the world are in a food crisis doesn't mean that everyone has to suffer, as well. I do think that it's a bit funny, the juxtaposition, but it doesn't exactly outrage me.

18. Typical Daily Mail - read the menu, turn it into 18 course meal
Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 01:36 PM by anigbrowl
By that measure I had a 43-course dinner the last time I went to the restaurant down the street. They have 43 items on the menu, so logically I must have had all of them, right? I'm convinced that that newspaper hires people based on their ability to secrete bile.

20. I don't
Worrying about this is asilly as saying Al Gore can't be an environmentalist because he has X kind of house or travels Y miles a year by plane or other contrived "contradictions" between personal behavior and political will. Edwards' house means he can't care about poverty. This menu means they can;t care about food shortages. The two arguments are identical, with if anything the latter having less credibility since John Edwards chose his own house personally, while we can assume that every attendee did not have go/no go authority to create this menu.

These arguments of course are baseless and frankly silly. Let;s say the attendees ate NOTHING. What would that entire menu do to solve world hunger? Nothing. It may feed a family or two for a few days at best (size of portions is not mentioned for a start). Instead what can the decisions that these attendees make do to help world hunger? A great deal, if the decisions are right and followed through. If these folks can hammer out an agreement on water purification or biofuels or ag. technology sharing they could eat like this every minute of their lives and still not counteract a fraction of a shred of a single percentage point of the effect they could (not necessarily will of course) have.

24. It is what I would expect...
It might be a bit complicated for Dubya but it looks like it caters for the hard to please French, the Italian's etc.. I think these occasions are seen as opportunities for top chefs to show their best stuff... In the UK we have a televised competition for top chefs to win the chance to cook at big banquets.

and to show the best of Japanese produce and to show they can do other cuisines too.
I am sure Dubya would before a hotdog and beans, like he offered Sarkozy.
