I trust Mr. Pickins about as far as I can throw him whilst he rides and elephant.

2. If he's pushing wind power (which he is), then I'm all for it.
I don't have to love the guy to support the idea. And in the ad, he specifically states that "this isn't a problem we can drill our way out of," a snub to the recent push to drill offshore and in ANWR. That's good stuff IMO.

19. Actually, I think it's kind of disgusting
that he's using the same line John Kerry has used in practically every energy speech he's given since at least 2003 to make his point about energy independence.

Pickens is a liar and a swindler who probably doesn't even trust his own word, so he has to use someone else's.

20. That was a key part of Kerry's speeches. "We can't drill our way out of it, we must INVENT our way
out of it."

Pickens worked AGAINST two of the best environmentalist presidents this nation could have had - Gore and Kerry.

He pocketed billions from Bush's terms and made sure Bush stayed in office till he gained control of alternative energy technology to profit off it. I love how he tries to downplay the cost of the Iraq war.

Expect Pickens to fully endorse McCain in the fall after media spends their time anointing him as the savior of the environmental movement. That is how these characters work.

4. My guess is that he bought a shit load of wind turbines somewhere really cheap...
... and he wants to sell them to the government.

If it doesn't make money for him somehow he wouldn't be doing it. There has to be some kind of catch.

My point, exactly. Altruism is not his middle name or his credo.

11. guys, I trade with hedgies (hedgfe funders) - this is what's going on
Pickens is a hedge fund manager. That's a fact. Doesn't make him a bad person. I like hedgies.

But GIVEN that, he is going to have investment themes. OF COURSE he is pimpin' alternatives - cause it will help his trades. Nothing wrong with that. There are SEC regs about pump and dump, for example, if he bought 500,000 shares of ESLR then started pimpin it as THE solar play or if he was front-running, etc. etc.

But the fact is that it is in his best interest to pimp HIS investment ideas because that increases demand for the stocks he is invested in.

Doesn't mean he's WRONG in his ideas. It just explains where he is coming from. THere is immense opportunity (for gain or loss) in new technologies. It was true in the tech bubble and it's true now in the alternative energy "space".

Information is sparse, and when there is emotion, and lack of information, mispricing means OPPORTUNITY for savvy traders.

so maybe by now they have enough of them to start making some money on instituting them..

Big business never does anything out of altruism.. It's always about the money
