My response to those who say they are giving up because of FISA
I think that Sam Adams said it best:

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hand which feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams, speech at the Pennsylvania State House, August 1, 1776

To everyone else who, like myself, are steeling themselves for the long fight:

"Labor to keep alive in your breast that little spark of celestial fire called conscience.
Our cause is noble; it is the cause of mankind!"
- George Washington

4. Amen to that
First the Military Commissions Act, and now this.

If I wanted this sort of wholesale attack on the Fourth Amendment, I would have voted for Republicans in '06.

6. Another amen.
Pissed and hurt and wondering who IS this person? When he's the only one of the dems who were running for Prez to vote this way, when he voted opposite of all those to whom I trust are fighting for us (Boxer, Feingold, etc.), I have to wonder why he's so far apart from what I believe in and what I thought he believed in.

7. Turn that Anger into Action!
Get involved!

The main reason the corporations were able to get this entrenched in our political parties is because we stopped getting involved!

My parents are both FDR Democrats. All my life the Republicans have been telling America that the "government is the enemy" and they have been demonizing government and by association, politicians and the whole political process. As a result my generation is obviously much less politically active then my parents' generation. We no longer have the institutional infrastructure that Unions provided the Democratic party for decades.

Progressives need to build a foundation that is independent of the Democratic party so we can stage a takeover.

11. What makes you think I haven't been involved?
That, in fact, is a huge part of my frustration -- all that prior involvement that has been betrayed...

2. Will You Let Us Know When It's Time To Give Up
I'm 42, and I only plan to be around another 50 years at most. I'd like to know when it's officially O.K. to feel like it's too far gone.

I think that's already occurred.

9. Admitting that you don't care about our Constitution
is neither democratic, nor will it help our country in the worse constitutional crisis in my lifetime.
