If you were a GOP operative...
Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 07:15 PM by ColbertWatcher
...how could you defeat the opposition (the Democratic party and by extension, the American people) when so many things are against you?
Your candidate for president sucks

your policies always end up in monumental failures

the American people are now slowly realizing that the biggest of your failures--the never-ending war in the Middle East--is costing more treasure and lives than anyone is still willing to support...
...yet your opponents, the candidates for the Democratic party, seems to have everything going for them?

How could you--as a GOP Party operative--divide and conquer the more popular party--your opponents--without having to improve your party's image, change any of your failed policies or find better candidates?

Would there be a way for you--as a GOP Party operative--to somehow convince the communications industry to assist in making your opponent look worse than you? Or, at least confuse enough of the electorate to believe there is no difference between the two parties.

Would it be possible for the communications industries to help the GOP achieve that?

1. I don't know, you tell me.
How do the telecoms make Obama go back on his promise to filibuster? How did they garner his support? I'd really like to know the answer to this. It doesn't make any sense to me.

2. This election is not about Obama.
This election is a referendum on the GOP.

Plus, Obama was not the only one who voted.

3. So how did the telecoms get to all the dems?
Surely the telecoms have not donated enough to that many democrats that they'd all completely sell out. How did it happen? I've heard many guesses, but very little solid info.

4. They don't have to get to all the Dems...
...if the Senate is split 50-50 (which it basically is) all the GOP has to do is vote as one (as they do) and only a few Dems need to bought off.

The problem is, the Dems don't always vote as one mind, regardless the issue. Some vote for or against issues based on a multitude of reasons, from the substance of the debate to the interpretation of the details of a bill to a vote of protest.

No GOP office holder has that luxury: they vote the way the party has pre-determined.

5. How did they get to 20+ dems then? Were they bought off?
Harassed? Threatened? Blackmailed? I've heard a ridiculous amount of speculation, but almost nothing hard. I'd just like to know how you think it was done.

8. Are you saying the GOP is completely innocent...
...as long as a few Dems vote against the Democratic "party line"?
