Poll question: Will Crashcart finish out his term as Vice President?
I read an item on HuffPost predicting that Cheney will step down within 3 weeks. I don't know if it will be 3 weeks, but I predict he won't finish his term, with "health concerns" cited as the official reason. What do you think?

1. He will "die" of a heart attack and join Ken Lay in Bora Bora
spending the afternoons sipping Mai Tai's on the beach.

5. Our lame duck's lame Dick will not go till he's thrown out...
The Dick and the duck will try and quash the election in 2008, IMHO.

6. Cheney likely imagined he could get away with his skullduggery and
that the GOP would continue to cheat its way into controlling both chambers.

He likely bought the line that Iraq would be a pushover project, a weekend lark, something that would maximize White House clout and corporate profits. He got the profits part right, but the PNAC team looks like dinosaur shit these days. Fewer than a third of Americans think there's a shred of hope in Iraq, let alone a shower of roses as promised.

If Cheney does step down it will be to call off the dogs of investigation. Whether the attempt will succeed, who knows? No Democrat is much afraid of him now, and more and more Republicans -- most of them up for re-election in 08 -- won't hesitate to tell him to go to hell.

Mitch McConnell will throw a few procedural fits to block blue initiatives in the coming months, but with less and less support from the White House, he'll eventually find himself outmaneuvered by Reid and beneath the weight of majority public opinion on major issues. Cheney would have been in a stronger position to help McConnell out 2 years ago. But after the 06 loss of both chambers, McConnell is increasingly doing single duty at all hours, and it will take its toll.

Republicans all over the place know they are cooked in 08 unless Iraq miraculously turns around. It won't. Cheney is one of its chief architects and directors. The longer he stays in, the harder it becomes for Republicans to win local, state, and national election in 2008.

:silly: :dunce:

Judging from the amoral, no-holds-barred behavior of the GOP, it's been my opinion for some time that the GOP can't afford to let Junior become an "ex-pResident" ... that he's a pathological narcissist who, when deprived of the enormous narcissistic supply of the Offal Orifice, would be a loose cannon. When I attempt to imagine how he'd be an asset to the GOP, I can arrive at only one answer: as a martyr. Thus, I speculate that Junior will be martyred before January 2009. I base this solely on my belief that NOTHING would stop the GOP from realizing the maximum value of any asset.

Then the question I pose is "What about Cheney?" I don't think Cheney wants to the the job out in the open. I think he wields all the power already and couldn't win an election to the Presidency no matter how many Diebold machines are used. Clearly, anyone who's Vice President when Junior is martyred would have the "sympathy vote" if they ran for President in 2008. Thus, I conjecture that Cheney can easily resign for "health reasons" and a designated successor to the Presidency could be put in his place. McCain? Brownback? Dunno.

It's a scenario that yields the maximum benefit to the GOP, IF AND ONLY IF the GOP really wants to inherit the abysmal conditions that will be left by Cheney/Bush. (It's quite possible that they don't want to handle the Iraq War and the economic collapse that's certain to come. I think whomever wins in 2008 will only serve one term. It's too much of a mess to 'win' a second term, imho.)

8. Cheney will resign but I said that months ago
...it's always been a question of time since it seemed obvious (to me) he would resign...timing is everything.

Resign around Easter..probably just after or the Friday before

I expect some sort of last, last ditch push in Iraq then as well

But that's just the eight-ball talking (snicker)
