Let's do like the movie stars do ...
...and don't watch movies. That way we would have to entertain ourselves instead of being spoon fed pablum by fools. We would save money and our children would grow up to be more intelligent. Redford is certainly one of the brighter Hollywood types -- so let us emulate him by not watching movies. .
Redford told Dwyer he rarely watched his own films. "I'm not comfortable with it," he said, adding that the first time he watched his own performance in The Sting was when he sat down to show it to his grandson.

"When he told me he hadn't seen The Sting , I said: what's wrong with your mother? And then it came out that I hadn't seen it either. So we watched it.

1. ummm .. Redford sponsors Sundance Film Festival
and the Sundance channel on TV. I can say with some comfort that Redford watches OTHER PEOPLE'S movies, just not the ones he is IN.

:hi:

3. That's true.
Redford watches OTHER PEOPLE'S movies

He's not perfect -- but he is on the right tract. Let us strive for perfection :-)

4. Yes, you have it right
I've known a couple of actors who do films and TV, and that is what they say. Actually, they are often rather keen on viewing other people's work, just not their own. And I can understand why. They can't really enjoy a film upon which they have worked because the illusions are all swept away by real memories of how it was constructed.

5. The daughter of a friend of mine works behind the
scenes on movies. She said that experience has ruined movie watching for her because she can more easily see the mistakes made.

6. Yes, that's it
anyone who has worked in films for any length of time tends to see the technical aspects.

2. Most actors I know don't watch their own films
but they tend to watch the films of others. Also, most TV actors don't watch themselves on TV. Of course with insane shooting schedules, etc, many actors don't have time to just sit and watch the boob tube anyway. Hmmm. I guess, like them, I have a life, because I rarely watch TV.

I will have to interject one comment on films, however--one can be discerning about what one watches. "Mind Walk", a film from the 90s, is quite timely and topical, anything but pablum. I would say that Michael Moore's documentaries are well worth a watch, too. As in anything, one can find gold amongst the dross, but one must often look carefully to find it.

7. I can't listen to myself on tape
Oh, it's not what I say that's so deeply embarrassing. It's just the way my voice sounds. It's grating to my ears when it comes from outside them.

I fully understand why actors can't watch themselves. I can't imagine looping, watching themselves over and over and trying to match dialogue to the screen. Ugh.

8. And Americans not spending over $80M a weekend is good too.

It's disgusting the amount of money we spend on that garbage. Myself included.
