7. When that happened my 15-year-old asked me if
that was the same contestant as last year. When I told her it was a new Miss USA she asked if not being able to walk was a requirement.

Actually, I felt bad for her, and I think it wrecked her chances.

16. Beauty contests are extremely popular in Venezuela
More than anywhere else. There is a huge beauty industry in Venezuela. Plastic surgery, etc.

The announcing is brutal - pointing out every little flaw.

Kinda like why the US has so many basketball players - it is a big deal here. Every tall guy is expected to play. Beauty contests are a big deal in Venezuela. Every pretty girl is expected to compete.
