Jimi Hendrix family sues over Hendrix Electric Vodka
Capitalism at it's finest. Let's steal Jimi's name, signature and likeness and put it on a bottle of Vodka. Forget about the fact that Jimi drowned in his own vomit after consuming too much alcohol. I wasn't going to post this but after going through some links on Google I was disgusted by ads like "Raise a toast to Jimi" and by the fact that they are planning other drinks like Rum and Tequila. I have nothing against drinking but this is just wrong on so many levels. I hope the family can put a stop to this.

2. good for them
I cannot stand it when some dead celebrity is used to push some product. Jimi booze is like having Buddy Holly Airlines or the Mama Cass Deli or something: tasteless.

3. Blatant infringement. How could they possibly think . . .
They wouldn't get their asses sued off? Who invests in wacko ventures like this? The same people who think death by alcohol is a selling strategy?

4. From the article:
"Dieffenbach said the lawsuit has no legal basis because a 2005 federal court ruled that Experience Hendrix does not own the rights to Jimi Hendrix's name and image - just his music."

So I guess that makes it ok. :eyes:

6. I wasn't able to get the link to work . . .

But even if Experience Hendrix doesn't own the Hendrix name and image, it sure as shootin' isn't in the public domain. SOMEONE owns it, even if they haven't protected it very well.

14. Adopted sister and if you think she's a scam artist then
I guess this Vodka must be a good thing. Being a guitar player who was inspired by Hendrix this to me is as bad as using "Revolution" to sell Nike's. But to each his own.

Oh and just so you know it was Jimi's dad who started the Experience Hendrix company to keep others from stealing Jimi's work. When Al Hendrix dies in 2002 the sister took over the company.
