Touching NYT Article: Losing Private Dwyer (The Photo Everyone Remembers)
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/15/opinion/15tue4.html?_r=2&ref=opinion&oref=slogin

The photo below captures everything that Americans wanted to believe about the Iraq war in the earliest days of the invasion in 2003. Pfc. Joseph Dwyer, an Army medic whose unit was fighting its way up the Euphrates to Baghdad, cradles a wounded boy. The child is half-naked and helpless, but trusting. Private Dwyer’s face is strained but calm.

2. I hear you. This is a great pic, and this is the man who killed himself.
I mourn all the time, and heard about this a couple of weeks ago.

Mourn, and think of all the people this fucking 'illegal occupation' has touched.

3. Shit, this guy who works for me in the office...
His son gets out of Army boot camp end of the month.
Guess where he's going three weeks later?

He's a great guy, smart - and I can't tell where his politics are at.
I can't believe he's sending his son into this meat-grinder.

4. maybe he's not 'sending him'
if a kid is old enough to join the military he's old enough to do what he wants regardless of dad's wishes.

5. You think this son asked permission?
Mine joined the marines over his mom and my objections-maybe because we objected.

7. Heartbreaking...
what a tragic, tragic story, like so many from this damn mess created by our government. All this young man wanted to do was (what he thought)the right thing. How does ANYONE who supported this invasion sleep at night? Karma has certainly kicked in, and we are all paying the price.
