Are you comfortable with how time has changed your looks?
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 11:19 PM by babylonsister
Does anyone over 25 like their looks better in later years than they did at 25 or earlier?

Watching Letterman, with the video of Ricky Gervais as a young man, I'm wondering. I didn't know how he looked then, am not that familiar with him, but I like him fine the way he is now.

Are you comfortable at what time has done to or for you?

I remember 4 years ago when I first found DU, and read lots in the lounge, with their pics threads. You have always been a breath of fresh air, not afraid, ashamed, NOTHING! about showing yourself and being proud of it, and you inspired so many people.
I have a soft spot in my heart for you, being you, and you do it so well. And you don't change, you are constant compassion, humor, and a delightful lady.

54. I'm fine with how I look at 60
could use a few pounds though as I always could have but I've come to terms with being a skinny person. I know this is going to make a few of you think I'm silly but I can't wait to go bald, just now in the last few years have I started turning grey. My mom was 42 when I was born and she had the prettiest white hair all my whole life and I want to be like her. my dad died at the age of 80 with most if not all his hair and its natural color, just a little grey sprinkled in here and there but that only came in the last few years of his life.

Ones nose and ears continue to grow as long as a human is alive so that is one of the reasons why our looks change as we age. Just in case anyone didn't know that. Another little tidbit that I bet most don't know is that all surface marks on the body be they scars or others migrate toward the navel as time goes by. I have a scar now that was from being burned on a wood cook stove when I was a little boy and on my hip and now that scar is going into the depression which is my navel a good 6 to 8 inches of movement for that scar.

I work out at the local aquatic center 6 days a week, 3 days weights and 3 days in the pool. The worst part is that when you look out from inside and feel mostly pain in the bones, how you look is not really a big concern. My daughter and son-in-law love me though so what the hell.

Now, I am a weightlifter d00d. I like the maturity better, and that look.

I do miss my hair, but with the shaved head thang, I don't really miss it that much.

I am just starting to see wrinkles around the outer edge of my eyes, which don't stoke me out too much.

Nor does trimming ear hair.

31.  NO!
From coal black hair to 80% white.
From 130 pounds to...well, let's just say a bit more.
Skin tags and age spots.
Sagging eyelids.
I have scars, scars, and more scars from surgeries.
Missing two breasts.

On the positive side, not many facial wrinkles yet. All my wrinkles are south.

Accepting the inevitable, but not comfortable.

I'm missing 'a' boob, and I don't care; I lost it long ago, but it's a bitch trying to get through Homeland Security now with a new one, full of metal.
I'm heavier than I ever have been, have wrinkles everywhere, and skin tags, but that's the aging process (except for the boobs). Shit happens, then you die, so I hope you're trying to enjoy. This is "me" and the alternative might just suck.

A boob full of metal? A full and detailed explanation is required. My "prostheses" are made of birdseed. The rubber ones are way too hot, and the foam...well, I am far too old to have me breasts under my chin. :)

Not your aunt, but we are no doubt sisters. And yep, I do enjoy life; probably more than many.

45. I bought one on the internets after using my m-i-l's fake ones for
years. Regular bra, insert fake stuff with a sewn in attachment-velcro.
The new one fits me better, but it buzzes everytime I go through security at an airport vs. tiny pellets hanging out on the old ones that don't cause anyone concern.
Go figure, but I adjust until the old ones split apart.
I remember years ago when someone should have started a biz for surgeries gone wrong.

And don't even get me started on bathing suits...

I'd like to lose weight (after all, I'm an American, right?) but apparently not enough to do the exercise and diet jihad for the sake of avoiding Captain Ahab and his harpoon. (I enjoy activity, not exercise.)

I'm happy I have two eyes that work, a (big!) nose that works, two ears that work, and assorted other parts that work (more or less) ... and, since there're sure folks that aren't as lucky, I can't see being anything but grateful.

I really got serious about fitness and running ages 24 to 30. The past few years, I was prescribed an antidepressant, Effexor-XR, that makes you physically lazy. And so my running...just...stopped. And I gained a few pounds.

After quitting Effexor-XR, which was a horrible ordeal that I do not wish on anyone, (even in Gitmo, LOL, just kidding), now I have the same "get-up-and-go" feeling that I had before I started taking the medication. Not long after quitting effexor, I started running again!

I'm definitely finding it easier to exercise now that I am off Effexor-XR.

Facially I'm still boyish in my late 40s, commonly mistaken for late 30s or very early 40s. My crown is full and not much gray. But the front is steadily turning into a V and that sucks. I've had to alter my hairstyle. Last year I started taking Fincar, at least 5 years late.

48. I Have Been Testing the Theory That One Does Not Get Old As Long as One Keeps Dancing
It seems to be working so far.

There is also a good bit of bicycling in the mix.
It helps to have an outdoors worth being outdoors in.
I'm in better shape than I ever was when I was a teenager.

It isn't only the exercise though.

Getting out into nature has a rejuvenating effect.
Dancing even more so.

Dancing under the stars until the morning comes is the best!
(then have some breakfast and dance some more!)

52. Oh, heck, yes.
I've earned every line on my face and every gray hair on my head. They are the manifestation of a life lived. I'll never win a beauty contest, and I'm satisfied with being considered a decent human being and having done my part to make the planet a little better. My finest achievements are my children and my greatest glory is my garden. Someday I'll just blow away like the leaf in the winds of winter, which have a beauty of their own.

53. Ok here's the thing.
When I was younger, I had this full round face. It wasn't fat, I've been within the average weight range for my height most of my life. It was just that I had a lot of collagen under the skin on my face when I was young. One time I got too thin because of an illness, you could count each rib, my body looked awful, but I still had this big round full face.

So in my 40s, the collagen under the skin started going away. I got this angular thin look going now. It is actually an improvement. True I have wrinkles with it and it is a little too flabby under the chin but overall, the shape is more appealing than when I was in my 20s.

But if you think about it, right now, you look the youngest you will ever look. So enjoy it while you can.

63. I try not to fret about things I can't control
Other than a little extra weight, I think I look pretty good for 50.

64. Hell no.....and yes.....
Time has not been kind to my exterior.......but time HAS been kind to my interior because now I don't give a shit and when I was young I cared way too much! I would also rather do almost anything than make a fool of myself when I was younger, too.....just a couple of days ago the 4-year-old I watch 3 days a week and I went out to lunch and did our goofy ladies-who-lunch haughty walk into the restaurant. Did I care that I was swishing my formerly skinny ass back and forth and talking like a Locust-Valley-lockjaw ass as we entered the place? Absolutely not, dahling!

65. I'm not liking the weight gain, but that's not aging it's overeating.
Otherwise, sure.

67. No.
Life has been hard. Much good, and much not. I've lived it fully, and it shows.

I get tired of people assuming I'm older than I am. Mostly because I don't cover the gray. How many women in their 40s actually allow all the gray to show?

Still, I'm physically tired, and I look it. I don't have the energy, or the stamina, I once did. The metabolic disorder doesn't help.

69. I like how I look better in my 30s than in my 20s.
My skin finally cleared up - that took a long time. I'd say 28+ has been better than before.

70. Hell, no.
I am 69 and was considered beautiful in my 20s, 30s and 40s. Now, my hair is thinning, my eyesight is going, my neck is sagging, my teeth are about to go and I have all kinds of aches and pains. At least I haven't gotten fat. This aging sucks big time!!!

72. I'm pushing 40 but still look the same as when I was 25...
My hair is still thick, and in fact, I am thinner and in better shape than I was then. I have a couple of fine lines, but so far so good.

I really don't care about looks though - It's the loss of mobility and independence and ultimately mortality that bug me. I don't think old=ugly at all.

73. I, thankfully, got my parents genes...
My dad looked like Cesar Romaro when he was younger and my mom like Betty Grable.

They both aged wonderfully.

Thankfully, I got a little bit of that magic. :)

76. Maybe because I will be 56 this coming Monday.......but
lately I haven't liked the way I am looking these days. The important thing to ask is whether one is healthy or not. I feel better than I have in years and still don't have any grey hair, so I guess I'm doing okay :-).
