Did anyone see Olbermann's "worst persons" last night?
Who were they? I came into the room and saw the Major League Baseball as one of the "worst" and I wanted to know why. Did it have anything to do with their impending exclusity deal with DirecTV?

Thanks in advance.

1. I Did
But, sorry, didn't catch the ballplayers' spot. I was too bugged by his assertion that Jimi Hendrix died of a heroin overdose. It's a small thing, I suppose, but in fact, Hendrix died from vomit aspiration due to an accidental overdose of sleeping pills.

8. As I Recall
Edited on Thu Jan-25-07 12:35 PM by Forrest Greene
He made the mistake because "...he was hop(p)ed up on heroin(e) (sic)." Haw, good turnaround. But seriously, folks...

As I recall, the story was that Hendrix -- a man who, by all accounts, deeply enjoyed a buzz in many shapes & sizes -- was, for once, only interested in getting a good night's sleep. He was given a European sleeping pill -- this happened in London -- with which he was unfamiliar. Whoever gave it to him neglected to tell him he should only take a half or quarter of it. Hendrix took the whole thing. As is typical in overdoses from alcohol, barbiturates, & other depressants, his body attempted to deal with the offending substance by vomiting it up & out. Unfortunately, the victim is often at this point lying down & unconscious. The throat & mouth fill with vomit, some of which is breathed back into the airway & lungs, & the victim suffocates. Not the most charming way to die.

More to this story is that Hendrix was found, unconscious, while still alive, & an ambulance was called, but supposedly the EMTs made some sort of mistake, something along the lines of laying him out flat in the ambulance when they should have sat him up, or vice versa.

Hendrix was a wonderful musician, & the world is poorer, even thirty-five years on, for his untimely death. Getting the facts wrong in stories like this is one of the things that lessens the credibility of warnings against irresponsible drug use. Heroin has killed far too many talented artists, no to mention ordinary everyday schlemiels, but Jimi Hendrix wasn't one of them.

Caveat: This was all a long time ago, & my recitation of the facts as I understand them is based on memory.

3. the worst were the collection of RW talking heads, all of them, incl.
the "comedian rush limbaugh", for saying that Hillary must have taped her web announcement months ago because the trees outside were green. KO said the trees are still green there now. I don't remember what the deal with MLB was. I think the dope, but not sure.

6. Thank you - I though it might be. For out of market fans this deal really sucks.
Just when I thought I couldn't respect Olbermann more than I already do...
