The local repuke pols prove me wrong....

http://www.baumbach.org/b2evolution/blogs/index.php?title=when_are_we_going_to_have_to_hire_a_rabs&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

"When are we going to have to hire A-rabs? When are we going to have to hire Indians, and everything else?"

So asked Collin County Commissioner Jerry Hoagland at Tuesday's court meeting. On his soapbox again about bi-lingual workers pay, he asked, "When are we going to have to hire A-rabs? When are we going to have to hire Indians, and everything else?"

Jerry wasn't talking about the county's lack of a working equal employment action plan. He was protesting the county paying a 3% higher salary for a bi-lingual juvenile detention officer.

Hoagland told the court that his "wife runs the Passport Office in Plano", and that they don't have any Spanish interpreters. Hoagland says his wife tells Spanish speakers they need to, "bring somebody who speaks English".

Following on the heels of the county's forcing out of a gay employee and their refusal to enact a meaningful equal employment policy, Tuesday's incident proves that these "good old boys" are out of touch with the moral values of the vast majority of Americans. Racism should have no place in county government, not even in Collin County.

1. I'm glad I don't live in Texas. Some great stories, but more trouble than it's worth.
I'm sorry. Texas should have stayed an independent republic, at the least. Too much inflicted on the rest of us.

4. I've found just as many...
(actually MORE) assholes here in Wisconsin.

They're more vocal about it too. Texas is not the only home of assholes in this country.

3. Dear Jerry:
First, Mr. Hoagland, you're a dumbass, but that's beside the point. Let me put it this way: Someone with better qualifications gets better pay. Now, unless you're some kind of a socialist, that should make perfect sense, even to a simpleton like you.

5. Jerry and his fellow cronies are too busy justifying annual raises
Edited on Sun Jul-20-08 08:56 PM by rainbow4321
to THEMSELVES. Looking around the website that has the article I posted, I see a bunch of stats/articles that show they like to compare our county to the much bigger counties when trying to justify/vote for their OWN raises.
(sigh) I only hope that the enthusiasm/turnout shown by this county's Dems over the last few months lasts thru November and we get RID of some of the local repukes. They may have to go out and actually earn a living and NOT get to vote on their own raises.
