T. Boone Pickens is a right wing freak. But I like his ads, and here's why
He is obviously spending a buttload of money on a message that
is (mostly) in line with ours, and in the process he's stomping
on GOP talking points.

this ad ran in just about every break tonight on Hardball:
http://pickensplan.org/media/?bcpid=1640183817&bclid=1641831862&bctid=1651750502

(is it running on the major networks?)

Key Pieces in ad:

Oil represents the greatest transfer of wealth in history-
we can't afford it(cue menacing pictures of endless war in
mideast.)

"I've been an Oil Man my whole life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of this"

"We need to develop Wind and Solar From Domestic Sources"
(that he added solar to the message was a surprise to me-
and lines up with Gore)

He even uses Gore's catch phrase, "We Can Solve it"
(see http://www.wecansolveit.org)

So, I know a lot of people are very suspicious, and to be sure,
he's all about making money, (and says so)
but in this case, his program cuts in the right direction,
at a real good time.

13. Oh you've seen that too
Screw oil........ 'Water is the next liquid gold'

I saw that reference and read a lot about that 7 or 8 years ago (most people I talked to thought I was FOS) and here you are, you're the first person I've run into that has also knows about this, same wording and all. The buying up of all the water rights, now that's some scary shit right there.

All life on Earth has the basic right to water.

15. The central problem all life on earth is facing
is they have used up all the water in the big population centers. So that leaves two options, either move everyone to where water is now or move the water to where the people are. He is planning on building a huge pipeline from his Sweetwater land (also where the wind farm is going to be) to Dallas.

Other than nationalizing all water rights in the country, I don't see much way out of paying someone handsomly for tap water.

5. And you notice the whole thing he wants to achieve is not sending "Them dirty Ah Raaabs, our Merican
money."

He only want enough alternative sources to cover what we buy from foreign sources.

11. He took that quote from John Kerry
Edited on Mon Jul-21-08 08:27 PM by globalvillage
who has been saying the same thing for years.

Wasn't enough he trashed the Senator's service, he had to steal his words, too?

edit to add quote from 2004

"There's no way for the United States of America to drill our way out of this crisis," Kerry says. "We have to invent our way out of it."

8. Can't stand the guy-but some of the stuff he says about the environment is spot on
I can't stand the guy and I don't trust him (with someone like that you can't help wondering what their real angle is), but I agree about the ads.

This is too important an issue (at least imo) on which to ignore any help one can get .

9. Yep...You Bit....
Pickens got out of oil years ago and began to corner the market on natural gas. He also has a lot of money tied up in wind power. His plan calls for you to give up your oil and buy his natural gas...and then replace gas with wind. He makes it coming and going. Gotcha!

But then what do you expect from a Swiftboat liar?

10. Wind is the Tehcnology Most Ready
for an immediate ramp up. It is already cost efficient. It needs wealthy industrialists with deep pockets to start an investment boom.

16. i know. everytime i am asked what kind of hippie i am, i must reply "a business hippie"...
as much as we all would love this whole environmental change to occur as as result of our altruistic nature...

that is bullshit.

this change will occur when business people like this forward thinking fuck make it so. for a profit, so be it.

i know, hate him for his profit motives (like he ever hides that fact. his fucking honesty should enlighten us so...)

but i agree this is the kind of business hippie that we need to start moving the ball forward toward our independence from oil.

and any idiot here that thinks it won't take a business hippie to make this happen is a fucking idiot. you think your forward thinking "government" will advance this cause?

heh!
